Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Cooper Lighting MS245R 240 Degree 300W PAR Motion Security Floodlight with Reflectors, Bronze (Tools & Home Improvement)
I have eight (yes - 8) motion sensing lights mounted on the exterior of my home. I live in the woods and my home is set back from roads, etc. Recently - after 15 years of use - all eight of my motion sensing light assemblies blew out - presumably due to a major power surge.
This unit is all metal with the exception of the sensor head and the arm that holds it which are plastic. I like a metal light although that may be entirely psychological and not very important to you. I should note that the plastic arm, holding the sensor head, is hard to lock down to the degree I'd like but absent a hurricane force wind, it probably is fine. This light has a universal mount - which means you can mount it on most electrical boxes - no matter their size or shape. I was not impressed with the gasket and the general idea of a universal mount. Water infiltration seems likely. I've only used this light for 4 weeks but WHAT I DON"T LIKE is that after a power outage - the light turned on and remained on - day or night - for several days - until I intervened. It should have reset automatically but it didn't. After turning it on or off repeatedly at the switch - it finally reset but I'm not filled with confidence when the next power outage occurs. The fact that it did not reset on its own is troubling but even worse was the fact that it took many attempts at the switch to reset it. I was ready to rip the light out when one last attempt of turning it on and off at the switch finally reset it. UPDATE: Once again the light turned on and remained on for a few days. Why - who knows? It had been raining but I never lost power. It took a number of tries to reset it. Another UPDATE: The light continues to turn itself on and remain on for days at a time. It is very difficult to reset and I've given up on this light. Once I purchase a replacement - this one goes in the trash bin. Remember - I had completely functional motion sensing lights that never displayed any of the problems that these lights have and they functioned perfectly for 15 years. Unfortunately they are no longer sold. Good electronics are what makes or breaks these lights. Are the electronics robust, can they handle power surges, do they reliably reset after a power outage, how sensitive is the sensor and how much can you adjust the sensor to meet your needs. These are NOT easy questions but are the right ones to ask. This light rates only one star in my opinion. You simply can't count on it. I'll be buying other brands in the future and hopefully I'll find a good one prior to replacing all eight lights. I've got seven more lights to replace - wish me luck.

Regent Used To Make Great Products But...,
This review is from: Cooper Lighting MS245R 240 Degree 300W PAR Motion Security Floodlight with Reflectors, Bronze (Tools & Home Improvement)
I have gone through several of these lights over the past few years. When they quit working, I just take the back to the store and get another one. But I am sick of going up and down a ladder every time it goes out. They simply do not last. I do however have one on the side of my house that's been going perfect for over six years. It is one of the older models that has a flashing LED when it detects motion. I wish they would go back to that design. I would avoid regent at this point.
