5.0 out of 5 stars Well Manufactured item and looks great.
I installed four of these in our kitchen ceiling and they look great. The lens which comes with them are a heavy opaque glass and really cuts down on the illumination but I cured that by taking a 2'x4' diffuser for a fluorescent fixture and cutting out four new one. Just perfect now -- if they don't melt over time.

3.0 out of 5 stars fixture is nice, Installation Instructions are useless - get this "hand" drawings
Appearance: 4 stars
Installation Instructions: 1 star
Amount of light: 3 stars if you keep the white opaque glass it comes with - much better if you go to TAP plastic or similar place & get a replacement piece that lets more light out.
Bonus: this can be installed in a bathroom because of the washer and glass it comes with.

This can be installed...

This can be installed without instructions if you have installed any recessed lights before - so don't waste your time trying to decipher the ones that came in the box. Cut the hole where you want it (8.5" x 8.5"). This is a Remodel kit as it comes in the box. Another benefit is it also can be put in the bathroom because the cover is glass with a washer to keep moisture out. It "could" be used for a new install, but you would need to buy the metal brace bars separately. PLUS this is a NON-IC light so I would not use it for a new install at all even with the braces, unless you absolutely know you won't add installation in same area, or you make a non-flammable enclosure space around and above the light fixture where installation can't touch it and it has air room to cool off. I think Family Handyman online has a cool article about how to make these enclosures if you must.

Otherwise, it's best just to use as a remodel kit the way it comes and keep breathing space around it in the ceiling. Your electrician will buy a metal conduit clamp connector ($1). Then knock-out a round hole on any side of the metal wire box (choosing a convenient side depending on where the wire is coming in from) and this little hole is where the new wire and the conduit clamp will all go. Then after the wiring in the little box is done and the box is closed up, set the whole light in the ceiling (slide it up diagonally). Once that is done, you can use the 2 screws in the side bars to adjust the height to drywall. The little side bars keep the light from falling out of the sky. I had to move one of my side bars to a different side because of an obstruction. Then the tiny black clips (p97)go on. Slide one on each side of the thin metal frame. This keeps the light fixture from pushing back up into the ceiling. Now install the bulb, then install the cover by bending the spring clips together (they may be hard) and inserting them into the little slot holes you see in the frame. Then just push the white cover up, the tension in the expanded spring clips will keep it up.

We could not find a replacement for our square, recessed light in a store, so we ordered this product online. With some creativity, we were able to install it without cutting additional holes in the ceiling. It looks great and I'm so glad we ordered this replacement.

My only negative comment about this product is the "instructions" (and I use that term loosely, in this case). The documentation was confusing, incomplete, and utterly useless. It's clear that the manufacturer assumed only electricians (who would not look at the documentation) would buy this product. Thank goodness my husband is an engineer, or we would have had to call a contractor just to replace a light fixture.
