Product Description

The Cooper Wiring Devices TR7745W-BOX 15-Amp Combination USB Charger with Tamper Resistant Receptacle and Box is a standard AC duplex receptacle with 2-USB charging ports rated 2.1A. The dual USB charging ports charge most compatible electronic devices that charge with a 5-Volt charger adapter. Includes 3-pre-stripped 6-inch wire leads for line, neutral and ground for quick and easy installation. Automatic grounding system eliminates need for bonding jumper in grounded metal enclosure. Also, provides redundant measure of ground continuity where jumper is used. The steel-mounting strap is zinc plated for added corrosion resistance. Replaces any standard duplex receptacle with the thermoplastic top and back body, which are virtually unbreakable for a number of years of durable performance. The Cooper Wiring Devices TR7745W-BOX 15-Amp Combination USB Charger is compliant with 2011 NEC Article 406.12 that states that all 15-Amp and 20-Amp, 125-Volt receptacles installed in dwelling units must be tamper resistant. Whether a home's style is traditional, modern, casual, cozy or rustic, it will demand more from wiring devices than in years past. Cooper Wiring Devices is dedicated to providing the up-to-date wiring device solutions; solutions that increase energy efficiency, increase productivity, promote safety at work and in the home and produce reliable performance. Cooper Wiring Devices is a trusted name in electrical products for over 175-years.

Let me start by saying I'm a techie not an electrician. We are always charging our tablets and smartphones so I wanted to find a good USB receptacle. I had decided between this receptacle and the Leviton T5630-W 2.1-Amp High Speed USB Charger/Tamper-Resistant Receptacle, 15-Amp/125-Volt, White. I wanted the higher 2.1-Amp for the USB port for our tablets. I decided to pay the higher price and go for the Cooper USB receptacle because I liked the look of it better and because it had the normal two electrical outlets.

Tamper Resistant:
I recently replaced all of my receptacles with tamper resistant receptacles (Leviton T5325-W 15 Amp 125 Volt, Tamper Resistant, Decora Duplex Receptacle, Straight Blade, Grounding, White ) so it would be safer for our young daughter and I was tired of plugging and unplugging the plastic covers. I can say that they can sometimes be difficult to plug and unplug electrical cords but I found this to be the case with tamper resistant receptacles in general not just this receptacle. I don't mind this small inconvenience because in return I get a safer environment for our family. With that said I had no problems plugging in 3-prong and 2-prong cords into this receptacle.

Size:
The receptacle is pretty deep. It is deeper than a GFCI receptacle. The instructions call for the box size for the 15-amp receptacle to be 3 1/8 inches deep.

I work with handheld electronics all day, so I recognize the value of how much current a USB port can supply. I had two of the older Cooper Wiring USB wall outlet with one receptacle and two USB ports, but upgraded them to these for the 2.1 A USB ports. They make a noticeable difference in charge times which is especially important for tablets, and I'm very happy with the performance. Good to have this in the living area where a quick charge is important. I moved the other ones to the bedrooms where charge rate isn't as important. Plus the extra outlet is useful too.

I've tried several other USB wall outlets and this is the first and only one that works right.

Here's why:
- The 120V outlets are tamper resistant (that's a code requirement unless you mount it over 5 1/2 ft high)
- Compatible with multi-gang installations and screwless wall plates
- Delivers enough power to properly charge an iPad
- The USB ports are flush so pretty much any USB cable will fit
- Detects connected devices and merely plugging in a USB cable will not trigger it
- No bigger than a GFCI and will thus fit in most wall boxes
- Leaves two standard 120V outlets available.

This one is a winner.

I recently bought this and had high hopes. It was very simple to install. It's a 5 minute job. It charges my IPod Touch, Kindle, Kindle Fire, and Samsung Galaxy S2. Unfortunately, 3 days after installing we also upgraded to Samsung Galaxy S4s. This will not charge the S4s. The LED on the outlet does not light up and the S4 doesn't charge.

I sent an email to Cooper and we'll see if they respond. If this would work with my phone I'd give it a 5 star review.

This one sits a little less proud of the face plate than the Leviton unit but more importantly it can charge 2 iPads at the same time . The other ones are a waste of money....really the Cooper unit is worth the extra money

Easy to install
Two 120v receptacles
Two 2.1 amp USB chargers

Looked at a lot of USB wall outlets before I decided on this one. This one is awesome. It works very well charging my iPad and iPhone. The green light that shows when its charging is a nice plus too. Was very easy to install and fit great into my standard box.

I installed 2 of these in my remodeled kitchen at the "junk" counter... i.e., the counter where all the junk ends up when we walk in the door.

We have a standard house phone plugged in here as well as a digital picture frame; the remaining 2 outlets and 4 USB ports are reserved for and typically have some combination of the following plugged in: iPad 3, (2) iPad Mini, iPhone 4, iPod Touch, HP TouchPad, BlackBerry 9650, and up until a week ago an HTC Thunderbolt. All of these devices charge flawlessly on this outlet.

As to the ThunderBolt... it was replaced with a Samsung Galaxy S4 about a week ago and I didn't notice at first but it will not charge on this outlet. As other reviews indicate, the charge light on the wall does not go, but the phone indicates it's charging... but it appears to suck energy rather than charge!

Given that it charges everything else I'm leaning towards this being something with the S4 internals rather than the outlet.

This is not why it got a 4.. it got a 4 because the outlets (again, as mentioned by someone else here) are bulky and the tamper proofing makes it difficult to plug things in. But these issues pale in comparison to the convenience of having USB outlets at your fingertips!
