The sensors automatically turn lights off after a space becomes vacant and a preset time delay elapses. This provide single-pole wiring without neutral and work with incandescent and fluorescent magnetic ballast lighting load types only. 500-watt/400-watt, 120-volt/AC rating, it can be wired as a single-pole device. Replaces a standard light or fan switch. Available in ivory color. Whether a home’s style is traditional, modern, casual, cozy or rustic, it will demand more from wiring devices than in years past. This product (Cooper K6107) is misrepresented as a 3-way switch, which implies SPDT (single-pole double-throw). It is not. Rather, it is a single-pole single-throw switch (SPST) with a 120V trigger that activates the connection when it is off, but only in automatic mode. In a typical 3-way circuit with two travelers and a SPDT switch at the other end, the installation requires placing a jumper on the SPDT switch, which causes one of the travelers to be continuously connected regardless of the switch position. You can turn the light on and off manually or automatically with the motion sensor switch, and when it is set to automatic you can turn the light on with the other switch. (Flipping it activates the trigger.) However, if the K6107 is in manual mode and the light is off, you can not turn it on with the other switch, and if the light is on you can not turn it off with the other switch. Quote from installation instructions, "Note: After jumper is installed, this switch will turn light on only."

If, contrary to the installation instructions, the jumper is not installed, the K6107 will turn the light on and off only on the position of the SPDT switch that connects the correct traveler. If the SPDT switch has been used to turn the light off, you can not turn it on with the K6107.

Also, because the jumper continuously supplies full 120V, it won't permit a dimmer switch at the other position to control the light level.

I thought one of these would be handy to have in the main hall of my house to automatically activate the lights and avoid stumbling in the dark. But the operation is too complicated, so I'm removing it from the circuit and saving it until I find a one-way circuit that needs a motion sensor. That's all it's really good for.

Be careful that this product matches your installation - it requires a relatively large flourescent load and magnetic ballasts. That basically means a fixture with two "fat tubes" (T12).

The ballast and load limitations are noted on the package and the item description.

Be aware that compact flourescent bulbs (CFLs) have integral electronic ballasts and won't work with this switch. T8 ("skinny tubes") also require electronic ballasts and won't work with this switch.

If you're using CFLs or T8 tubes, you'll need a more robust switch, like the Pass & Seymour Legrand WSP200. Unfortunately, it costs about three to four times as much. But it works with smaller flourescent loads and electronic ballasts.

The Cooper motion switch does an adequate job with incandescent lights and was easy to install.

Light works as advertised. The switch was well packed and shipped safely.

If there is a Lowes or other such store near you, you can get the switch for 8 to 10 dollars cheaper. I was able to install the switch without a problem. The timing can be adjusted as can the ability to keep the light off when there is a lot of light already in area. I used a small piece of white tape to cover some of the sensor so the light would not trigger when I walked by an adjacent room.

Contrary to an earlier review about it working with a large fluorescent load - it doesn't. I have a load with 4 T12 tubes, and it flickers constantly in the "Auto" mode. When in "On" mode it works fine. I'm sure Cooper could avoid lots of return costs if they would have designed it right from the start.

I've installed 2 of these in bathrooms, but they consistently turn off too quickly if they haven't been on in a while. Adjusting the timer will lengthen the amount of time it's on once it's warmed up, but it still has the problem the first time it turns on. It's gotten to the point where many people just turn the switch to on so they don't get plunged into darkness, defeating the purpose of the things.
I'm looking for another brand to replace these with.

We used two of these to automate lighting and vent fans in our commercial building rest rooms to cut down on the amount of heating and cooling loss during non occupancy of the facilities. They both are working flawlessly.

Connected switch but when the light times out, the light bulbs stay dimly lite. When motion is sensed, the lights brighten up, but again, when timed out, the lights stay dimly lite. Unit is wired correctly as per manual. A ceiling fixture with two incandescent bulbs is being used.

I gave this one to a friend. I bought the 3-way version of this switch and installed it in a room that is 12-ft long by 6-ft wide. For some unknown reason, the builder put 3-light switches in this room to power 1-light. It's a laundry room that we pass through to get to the garage, so it's a high-traffic area. Now, we don't have to worry about flipping the light switch off and on as we go to and from the garage. The motion detector switch handles that for us. Works great and saves money on energy bills. I would recommend.
