The x48 is an 8 foot foldable, wood ruler made by Lufkin, a CooperTools Company. It is their premium "Red End" model having numerals on both sided, red markings every 16 inches, solid brass pivets, and a 7 inch brass extension member. Why "Red End"? The ends of each ruler section are painted red.

An excellent measuring instrument, it folds & opens smoothly and is easy to read. The x48 is great for taking measurements where a usual 6 foot folding ruler is not quite long enough.

The 8 foot length allows use for cutting 8 foot panels.The rule however develops loose joints and the extension slips with wear.

I use this ruler for measuring windows and also for sewing curtains. This rigid ruler definitely beats out floppy metal tape measures for getting an accurate measurement of windows. It's also a great tool for measuring when you're making 8 foot curtains on a worktable. Very high quality with clear markings. And I love the metal extension on the end.

The Lufkin X48 ruler is not as described in the product description. The numbers do not begin on the "inside of rule," so measurements don't lie "close to the work." Instead, the numbers begin on the outside of the folded ruler, with measurements separated from the work by several layers of unfolded wood sections. In other words, this ruler, is no different than most others.

Beyond that, the ruler seems decent enough. The metal extension occasionally binds on something underneath at about the 1/2" point of the extension, but this seems to getting better (wearing in) fairly quickly. The metal joints between the folded wood sections are sufficiently tight. The numbers and ruler increments are well marked as well.

But, despite these positive points, I'm returning the ruler (if the seller ever returns my email). I purchased this hoping for a ruler with numbers starting on the inside of the folded ruler. Absent that, this ruler offers nothing for me beyond what my nearly identical Lufkin X46 already provides.

My Dad's was a 6 foot ruler, this one is an 8 footer.

Surprisingly, this tool seems to be made as well as they used to be.

A very handy, simple tool for taking the inside measure of things 'accurately'.

These inside measure rulers are becoming uncommon and hard to find. That is a shame, because they are so handy. Everyone should have one around. Even a 'housewife' would find them quite useful.

This is a very useful tool, especially for doing drywall work. I could not find it locally, so I went to Amazon.
