4.0 out of 5 stars A comedy full of laughs and action
To tell the truth, I wasn't looking forward to this film at all. I'm a pretty big fan of most of Kevin Smith's work, but he didn't write the film. It could be argued that he did write Jersey Girl and that could be considered a bomb, but his films usually average about $25-$30 million anyway. 1.0 out of 5 stars One of Bruce Willis' worst movies!!!
This movie is hot garbage. The plot is dumb, Tracey Morgan isn't funny and never has been. Bruce must of been hard up for work to do this movie. I found after 30 minutes of watching the movie I was fighting not going to sleep. So I guess its good for a sleeping pill instead of for entertainment. I want my 2 hours of my life back! Avoid this one.

4.0 out of 5 stars A comedy full of laughs and action, February 25, 2010
This review is from: Cop Out (DVD)
To tell the truth, I wasn't looking forward to this film at all. I'm a pretty big fan of most of Kevin Smith's work, but he didn't write the film. It could be argued that he did write Jersey Girl and that could be considered a bomb, but his films usually average about $25-$30 million anyway. A Kevin Smith film isn't really about bringing in a large amount of money at the box office. His charm is in his writing, especially the dialogue and interaction between characters. There's a very specific audience his films will appeal to and none of them have really branched away from that. But him not writing this one made me think, "Eh. Not sure what that'll be like since he didn't write it." When it comes to Bruce Willis, I've never talked to anyone who dislikes him entirely. There always seems to be at least one of his films everybody enjoys. Die Hard, The Fifth Element, and Sin City are just a few off the top of my head. The real buzzkiller for me though was Tracy Morgan. He's just never been funny to me. He was beyond lame on Saturday Night Live and 30 Rock has never been able to hold my attention for very long. Not to mention all the trailers for Cop Out didn't make me laugh. Thankfully though, first impressions can be so very wrong.

One of Cop Out's biggest charms is that it feels like a buddy cop comedy you've seen before, but have forgotten how much you enjoy it. The film feels similar to a 48 Hrs or Beverly Hills Cop film. Bulletproof is also a good example. Cop Out is pretty much what you expect when it comes to roles Bruce Willis chooses as it's pretty much no different than his role as John McClane on the surface, but he's a lot funnier this time around. As far as Tracy Morgan goes, the funniest thing I could remember him saying was his one line in Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back ("Man... I don't know what the f--- you just said, Little Kid, but you're special man, you reached out, and you touched a brother's heart.") until this film. He was downright hilarious at times. The only person who was funnier than Morgan was Seann William Scott who stole every scene he was in. Even though Kevin Smith didn't pen the script this time around, it still feels like a Kevin Smith film. It could be due to the fact that Jason Lee has a small role in the film, but I like to think it's because Cop Out offers the same kind of comedy you'd find in a Kevin Smith film with a bit more action. It also took me forever to place Scarface from Half Baked as Poh Boy.

Cop Out is surprisingly funny and incredibly entertaining. Give this film a chance even if the trailers may not be doing anything for you. I felt the same way and wound up thoroughly enjoying the film. After a long, stressful day at work, an R-rated comedy with a lot of laughs is one of the best ways to relax and this film offers just that. It's a great film to go into with no expectations other than to just have a good time. As long as you don't run out of the theater, you should catch the part in the credits. This might just be the funniest film released in 2010 thus far. Be sure to check it out. Highly recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun Summer Movie, August 21, 2010

This is a good movie for some laughs. Tracy and Bruce make a good comedy duo. The storyline is better watched then read in a synopsis. I love Rush Hour so this had its appeal to me. This movie is probably best between the ages of 13-20's. This movie is a good rental not a buy or if its on TV. I hoped this helped!

1.0 out of 5 stars Poor Bruce Willis, January 4, 2011
This review is from: Cop Out (DVD)
I had heard that this movie wasn't that great, but saw it on sale really cheap for Christmas, so picked it up. My wife and I like Bruce Willis films and he's usually pretty consistent

This movie stank so bad, we're still trying to get the smell out of our house. Tracy Morgan was not funny at all, but just annoying Watching this movie was like torture. We sat through the whole thing hoping it would get better but it didn't. Even at the $5.00 Wal-Mart bargain bin price, it was a waste of money. There were some talented people involved with this film, but they could not save it from the bad writing and terrible acting. It was sad to see. We honestly felt sorry for Bruce Willis for being involved with this stinker. It was if the director was trying to make it bad on purpose. Not even a 1 star rating is low enough.

5.0 out of 5 stars FUNNY - Love Bruce Willis and Tracy Morgan, July 3, 2011
This review is from: Cop Out (DVD)
Perfect for an evening of light-hearted comedy. Doesn't make you think (try not to), and very entertaining. If you're uptight or not in the right mood you won't find this movie funny, but if you are looking for a good comedy then give it a try. Don't let the 2-star reviews fool you, It's WAY better than Hangover 2 which has 4 stars on Amazon. :-)

I like buddy cop movies, that's why I wanted to see this one but it was so bad.Pretty boring and not very funny.I did like the scene where Tracy Morgan did that line from Robo Cop in the begining but that's about it.Sean William Scott wasn't that funny in this movie either.I thought he was annyoing.I bet Bruce Willis didn't like Tracy Morgan in real life, not just in the movie.Never will I see anthor movie with Tracy Morgan again. They should have paired Bruce Willis up with someone else.Don't even watch this movie for free!

1.0 out of 5 stars Bad!, December 17, 2010
This review is from: Cop Out (Blu-ray)
First off I love Tracy Morgan. He is great on 30 Rock as well as SNL and his Live shows. Movies he almost always crashes and burns in. Cop Out has to be the worst of them all. The movie is just boring. I should have shut it off 30 min in. I wanted to end my own life after seeing this film that's how bad it is.

2.0 out of 5 stars Homage to the 80s Cop Action Comedy -- And Not So Interesting, September 13, 2010
This review is from: Cop Out (DVD)
Those who have grown up watching the 80s police action films know the formula. Two cops, often long-time partners, investigate a murder case. Their investigation leads to gang-related crimes or corrupt authority. There are actions and laughs, and nice soundtrack music, too. "Cop Out" is, as one of the film's characters say, "homage" to the genre. But homage does not necessarily mean imitation.

"Cop Out" stars Bruce Willis and Tracy Morgan as NYPD cops Jimmy and Paul working as partners for nine years. They get suspended by the captain for messing up an undercover drug investigation, and Jimmy is forced to sell a very rare baseball card he owns. He needs money for the wedding party of his daughter Ava (cameo by Michelle Trachtenberg) who is getting married. A masked robber, however, breaks in the shop before he gets money, and takes his vintage card away. The veteran cops track down the stolen card, no matter what it takes, and the story somehow goes back to where it started: a drug lord (who loves baseball) and his gang.

This is a Kevin Smith film that is not written by Kevin Smith (written by Mark and Robb Cullen), and this is the most boring film he ever made. It is occasionally fun, I admit, thanks to the stars and Seann William Scott as s small-time crook (equivalent of Joe Pesci's character in "Lethal Weapon 3"), but random comically-inspired moments (ad-libbed, I suppose) do not make a good film. "Cop Out" drags for the most part of the hackneyed story despite the presence of talented cast including Kevin Pollack, Adam Brody, Ana de la Reguera, Guillermo Diaz and Jason Lee (regular of Kevin Smith films), plus the music by Harold Faltermeyer ("Beverly Hills Cop" and its sequel.

The film is made with an uninspired concept and half-hearted efforts, something Kevin Smith was not known for.

4.0 out of 5 stars TRACY MORGAN WAS GOOD, July 26, 2010
By
Michael Ledo (Windsor, SC United States) - See all my reviews
(TOP 1000 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Cop Out (DVD)
This is not the best Bruce Willis film out there. For Willis fans you might wait for Die Hard 4. He does not play a super-cop, but rather a mediocre cop paired with Tracy Morgan who uses lines from movies to interrogate prisoners. The cops screw up and get suspended from the police force. Willis, in a situation where he wants to pay for his daughter's $48,000 wedding, opts to sell his 1952 gem mint 10 Topps Andy Pafko card for $83,000. While in the card shop he gets robbed. They now try to recover the card, which leads to dealings with criminals. Morgan steals every scene from Willis, who is nothing much more than an overpaid straight man. Willis fans will not enjoy this movie as much as Morgan fans. This is better than another Rush Hour movie, but don't expect too much.
