I received this kettle yesterday and I was immediately struck by how thin the metal is compared to other kettles I've owned/used. It almost feels like it was made for camping. Whether you consider this to be a good thing or a bad thing is down to the individual. It is very, very light, which makes it ideal for older people, but I have no idea how durable it will be. If it breaks I'll be sure to write another review though!

The whistle is pretty quiet. It is certainly not piercing like some whistles. I can hear it in another room with the door to the kitchen open, but I suspect the whistle wouldn't make it through a door. Again, this is good for me as I have a roommate, but if you want to hear it from the other side of your house this kettle isn't for you.

The handle stays cool and it pours well, so no problems there.

Size wise, it just (and I mean JUST!) covers the smallest ring on my electric stove top.

In summary, this is a decent, light, very cheap kettle that would be ideal for camping.

ONE YEAR UPDATE - I've been using this kettle an average of two times a day for a year now and it is still going strong. There is certainly no rusting, or mineral build up in the kettle. It is still as clean inside as the day I bought it. The only way you can tell that the kettle isn't brand new is that the metal has discolored slightly from being heated up so many times, although not in a bad way. I would now strongly recommend this kettle and based on my experience, I'm upping my rating from 4 star to 5 stars.

The thing I like best about this teakettle is its size -- there are only 2 of us, and it makes enough water for 2 large cups of tea; we don't need anything bigger than that. Plus it is cute. It's true what the other reviewers said about it being made of thin metal, but what would one expect for this low price? It boils water, and that's all I care about. I have had this kettle for a good 5 years now, and it is still in good condition. I just ordered another for my mother-in-law.

I have a particular (perhaps, some may say, somewhat sick) affinity for inexpensive tea kettles. My stars wound up in alignment recently when I found this exact model at a local flea market in brand-new condition.

I like that the handle folds down, so there's one star. It's well made, so that's another star. It's inexpensive (very much so in my instance), so there are three stars. And you can bring a full pot to the boil and pour off several cups without burning your fingers - therefore, four stars.

I'm taking off one star as the whistle is weak; however, it sounds off loud enough to get one's attention that 'tea time' has arrived. Overall I'm pleased with this product - one of the better bargains in today's confused cornucopia of cheap import kitchen accessories.

I needed a one-person, smaller tea kettle but did not want a cheap metal kettle that would look dented or tacky within a month. Nor did I want to drink water boiled in aluminum. I also didn't want to spend $80 or more for a better quality kettle. Though I love both glass and ceramic, it's too easy to break with regular daily use.

This little kettle is tiny, so it heats up to a boil at a rapid pace. You'll have a cup of hot tea in minutes. Perfect.

No it's not thick, but it is stainless and it's easy to clean. Pop it into dishwasher and it looks new again.

Yes, it does whistle, but in proportion to its size. It's NOT loud. That is my major caution.

If you tend to wander away to the other side of the house and forget the kettle is on the stove, you likely won't hear this little fellow whistling and should buy a bigger, louder teakettle.

If your needs are similar to mine, you'll think it's perfect. Will it last for ten years? Probably but the plastic parts might not. And the price is beyond reasonable.

I got this teakettle for about 2 months. I used it almost every day. I noticed there was rust on the edges into the kettle. So sad, isn't it suppose to be stainless steel? :(

My main requirement for a new tea kettle was that it would not rust. I have had a number of kettles, high to low end, and they all seemed to end up rusting at some point. I make tea, cider or hot cocoa almost everyday in the fall and winter, and wanted something to stand up to that heavy use. While the kettle itself is very light weight, it heats up quickly, whistles loudly and does not rust. Very pleased.

I used this T Kettle about 12 times when it started leaking around the seal at the base so it is not useable. If I want to return it - it will cost me shipping and I will only get 1/2 my money back according to Amazon's return policy for this item. Since the Tea Pot was $13.00 it is not worth my time but I'm certainly not happy about this. That said, I still love Amazon.

Can't ask for more. Works pretty good. For those who says it's not whistling, just don't fill too much. There's a maxi full line under the pouring mouth that you should not pass. Otherwise it won't whistle or whistles very low.
