I've bought two of these kettles and it looks great. Unfortunately I've had to return two of these kettles because of the poor quality plastic used in the handle. In each return (and even some boxes that I opened in a store) the problem was the same: the platic handle broke. I guess the outward pressure of the metal portion of the handle is too strong for the plastic used and it snaps. When it happened once, it could be a fluke. It happened twice, I'm starting to get suspicious. I open boxes in a store and see the same problem and we have a design flaw. I've given up on this kettle and will keep looking for a stylish kettle.

This teakettle is well constructed and heats the water well. The heat resistant handle and the drip free spout are nice features. I have two complaints about the kettle, however.

The first is very minor. The care instructions included are obviously generic instructions which apply more to plain steel kettles, not stainless. The instructions warn about letting water sit in the pot,etc... That isn't a problem with this kettle due to its construction.

The second issue is that the kettle doesn't whistle very well. Most of the steam escapes through the spout instead of the whistle on the lid. If you cover the spout, the lid whistles, but it doesn't if the spout is uncovered. (There was no plug/cover supplied for the spout, and I haven't seen one in any of the photo's.)

5.0 out of 5 stars Fusion Teakettle Sturdy with Loud Whistle, March 13, 2003

I found this teakettle to be extremely sturdy and well made. The little stainless steel ball located inside the spout is secured well within the two tiny screens on either side of the spout. This function does work well and causes water to "flow" out smoothly and evenly from the spout.
The whistle feature is located inside the lid, performs well and is loud enough so that it can be heard from our home office upstairs. I love the design and stainless steel/enamel finish.
The handle is comfortable but your wrist has to bend at a slightly awkward angle to pour; it doesn't detract from the overall performance of this kettle. I am very satisfied with it and highly recommend it.

Update: I am still using this tea kettle after eight years, maybe I was lucky but I never had any problems with it. It's a great kettle.

3.0 out of 5 stars Looks better than performs, January 8, 2003

I bought one of these and returned it. First, the one I had had a little chip in the enamel. The whistle is so anemic that if you put it on the stove and go out of the room and think you're going to hear the whistle - forget it. You will burn up the pot. It has a nice but gimmicky pouring device - ball bearing in the spout. It always sounds like there's something in the pot when it moves around, but it does prevent any drips from coming out. I also thought it was awkward and heavy, but I"m used to the Revere ware style of kettle. If you don't care whether the thing whistles or not, try this.

1.0 out of 5 stars Likely risk of serious burns., November 5, 2007

The high position of the spout on this product means that the kettle must be tilted to an extreme degree to pour from it, especially when the kettle is less than half-full. As my wife painfully discovered -- when tilted too far, the top can easily fall off. This exposed her to a cloud of scalding steam which burned and blistered her hand. Other tea kettles we have used in the past have tops which fit snugly enough to prevent this possibility. The fact that the Copco kettle's top is loose-fitting and has no locking mechanism makes the risk of serious burns an all-too-likely occurrence.

The kettle is extremely attractive. It has minor design flaws in that the whistle is useless, a screen in the spout impedes pouring and makes it very slow (also leading to tilting the kettle more and risking burns), and the rubber handle gets very hot -- which Copco recognizes and recommends always using a pot-holder. However, the risk of serious burns overrides any other consideration and makes this product unacceptable for use. Its poor design should make it subject to recall until some provision can be made for better securing the top.

3.0 out of 5 stars Really like this kettle, but problem with screen, October 12, 2009
By

I've only had this kettle for a couple of months, but I really, really like it and it seems to be of very good quality. Handle doesn't get hot, pours nicely (not slow), heats quickly, and the whistle sounds like a little bird. I was planning to buy a Kitchen Aid kettle, but changed my mind when I compared it with this one at the store.

Update after 6 months: Still love the kettle, but the screen that holds the whistle ball has black deposits on it (could be rouge, if it's not the right grade of steel for the application). Replacement had the same issue. Copco has offered to replace it with another model.

3.0 out of 5 stars All round an ok kettle, except..., February 7, 2009

I have to say that the kettle is stylish and fairly well made. We had no problems with the lid, which secures well, does not get stuck and the incorporated whistle works well.
The spout is angled a bit too steeply, so pouring is a bit straining on the wrist. Water comes out a bit slowly and tilting further will just cause for some drops to escape from the lid.
The biggest gripe is with the metal screen that holds the ball in the spout. The ball seals the spout when boiling so that the steam can be forced through the lid to make the kettle whistle. When the kettle is tilted to pour, the ball comes out to let the water through and is held from falling in your cup by a metal screen. This screen is not made of stainless steel and within a few months it started rusting quite badly.
Now the metal screen is so badly rusted that I think that the screen will soon fail... cleaning with CLR or similar will work at first, but the problem comes back worse and worse.
...if they would have only chosen a better material for that screen!

I've used this teakettle for a few months before the lid knob broke off and there was no way to open it except to stick a knife and try to get it out. There seemed to be no way to re-attach the lid knob. No issues with the handle and it is a pretty nice looking tea pot, it just does not last.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice kettle for use on glass cooktops, March 15, 2006

I bought the same Copco kettle three years ago for use on a stove with a flat glass cooktop. The bottom is smooth and water heats easily and rapidly. The design is good and the whistle is built-in so it does not have to be flipped out of the way to pour out boiling water. The reason for replacing the kettle after three years was that rust formed in the inside bottom, making the water unpalatable. However, after three years of use once or twice a day, it was worth replacing with the same model.

5.0 out of 5 stars great teakettle, March 8, 2010
This review is from: Copco Fusion 2-Quart Polished Stainless Steel Teakettle (Kitchen)
I've had this teakettle for a couple of weeks and I really like it. I have no problems pouring the hot water as some reviewers stated -- the steam doesn't touch your hand even though it is a short spout. It is easy to use and looks great. You just have to be careful not to overfill it as the instructions state.
