5.0 out of 5 stars music that won't fade away, June 21, 2004

this is big jump from the previous release (Friendships ...) a more mature, focused and intricate sound. Not afraid to take some chances (check out the abrupt ending of the opener) or take a breather.

Incidentally the track listing here is incorrect. The opening song is "Waking Up With Eyes Still Closed" which isn't listed.

This is how a three piece should sound. Every instrument has it's own space while still creating a full sound. Solid rhythmn section and some simple but great guitar melodies. Not an album that will grab you with hook laden radio friendly choruses but give it time and as with all the best albums you'll sink right in.

A solid album that you can listen to right through fomr beginning to end. Standout tracks for me being Stereo, Cope Park, California, Passenger and Happy Endings which brings to mind DSOTM Pink Floyd.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gimme Gimme Indie Rock, June 3, 2004
By
This review is from: Cope Park (Audio CD)
Cope Park is a focused, powerful and literate blend of circular
riffs, subtle hooks and topical themes. The tune "The Neverwills" could be the the theme song of thousands of rock bands across the nation. "A limited shelf life-A blackened lung-
And the bartender plays the priest-Preaching out to the
converted..." OUCH!! The band touches on other themes such as
mental illness , broken famlies, financial woes, and love .
Audio Learning Center brand of northwest indie rock is well worth seeking out. A great recording from front to back.

These guys are awesome, but don't buy this album until you have listened to Friendships Often Fade Away. Once you have the two ALC albums, track down the band called Pond - the lead singer came from that band to form ALC. Once you have the complete picture, then you can appreciate what a great album Cope Park really is. Very powerful vocals, super bass, great guitar and spot on percussion. The lyrics are top notch as well.
If you are expecting processed, one hit wonders, or expect all of your music to come from a studio with an over eager engineer, then you will be disappointed.
If you want to listen to a band that knows how to write and then perform their songs with incredible depth of feeling and talent, then pony up the money, and dive right in.
These guys are about the music, and the art of being a musician, not pop stars.
