If you sent a vast colony of ants to disassemble Copenhagen and asked them to deposit their granules in neat rows, you would have a very orderly text. But looking down on it from a human height, you would not be able to imagine the city. This book will tell you what bus to take, where you can eat and drink, but it will leave you with no sense whatever that there is any pleasure to be had from the experience. If, desperate for meaning, you were to lie down and view the deposited granules from the side, you would see that all of them are exactly the same size and shape, revealing no contour or emphasis. This book's Copenhagen is an atomized wasteland of data. What it does leave you with is an appreciation of the art of writing a real guidebook.
