5.0 out of 5 stars Coping with Aphasia, June 10, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Coping with Aphasia (Coping with Aging Series) (Paperback)
I cannot praise this book enough. The author explains what to expect, at every point of disability and recovery, for both patient and caregiver. Using non-technical language, he explains the causes of aphasia and the several manifestations of the disorder. He provides many strategies for helping the aphasic function as fully as possible, and he reassures the reader that aphasics have not lost their basic intelligence--only the ability to communicate effectively. This is information that most doctors do not take the time to convey to patients and caregivers. What we fully understand is not nearly so frightening or frustrating. Thank you, Jon Lyon!

This review is from: Coping with Aphasia (Coping with Aging Series) (Paperback)
Coping with Aphasia is written for non-professional people who have to care for an afflicted family member. It is informative, supportive, and honest about expectations for the injured person's recovery.
