This review is from: Coping with Pet Loss (Overcoming Common Problems) (Paperback)
Written by bereavement counselor and licensed psychotherapist Robin Grey, Coping with Pet Loss is a straightforward guide for readers of all backgrounds to dealing with the loss of a pet. In a sympathetic and compassionate tone, chapters discuss how to help children cope, pet loss late in one's life, issues concerning euthanasia, loss of a service dog, remembering one's pet, how to know when one is ready to get a new pet, and much more. "'Bruno went to the vet's and they said he had to be put to sleep.' This statement is based on what the vet may have said, but it potentially creates anxieties about sleep. What about when you tell your child to go to sleep? This can translate into fears about going to bed or having hospital treatment. It is better to let the vet explain that the pet's life has to be ended to avoid it suffering too much, linking this to behavioral changes in the pet that your child may have noticed in the last few months." Highly recommended for pet owners of all backgrounds.
