5.0 out of 5 stars Great book about PE, November 28, 2008
This review is from: Coping With Premature Ejaculation: How to Overcome PE, Please Your Partner & Have Great Sex (Paperback)
The most amazing thing about this book is it's approach to the matter of premature ejaculation. It gives you an answer for all your questions. It means that you'll get to know which type of PE you have and how you have obtained it. Then it gives you the procedure how to cure it. This is particulary good in the way that you know which circumstences caused your PE, which aspects of your life you have to concentrate on and which to change. When you know these facts you'll get more comfortable and self-confident because it gives you the impression that PE is something that is cureable.

I have already read several books on this matter. Like the book by Barbara Keesling, then the 'Multi-Orgasmic Man', 'Multi-orgasmic couple', books by Margot Anand and her DVD, 'Tantra' by Andre Lysebeth, 'Tantra & Tao' by Gilly Smith, 'A Chakra & Kundalini Workbook' by Jonn Mummford and another book about Kundalini which I don't remember the author's name. These Tantra books are nice and they bring something new to your thinking about sex and relationship, but the techniques won't help unless you believe absolutely in energy and it's flow. For some it's not so easy to imagine.

Another thing is the use of the Pubococcygeal Muscle described in almost all of these books including this one. In the Tantric books you are instructed how it is important to squeeze it before the point of no return and how to imagine the flow of the energy and the importance of pumping it to your head and who knows where else. 'Coping with Premature Ejaculation' teaches you how to relax it and your whole body(however, this depends on the type of PE you have) which is far more important because eventually you'll get relaxed during intercourse being completely aware of your feelings and your partner what you would not achieve with the Tantric books (at least, I wasn't able to) because you would be distracted by your imagination.

I can only recommend you this books. It works for me, although I haven't finished reading it, and as for now I do the individual exercises, but I have already noticed progress and that just after few weeks of reading. I haven't noticed such change even after I have completely read the Tantric books mentioned above.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a wonderful book!, December 13, 2006
This review is from: Coping With Premature Ejaculation: How to Overcome PE, Please Your Partner & Have Great Sex (Paperback)
I am a sex therapist and sex educator, teaching at a large graduate school in the midwest. I use this book as a required text in my 'Treatment Strategies for Sexual Dysfunction' class. It is not only an excellent self-help book, it teaches clinicians how to think about and treat sexual difficulties. Barry McCarthy and Michael Metz are simply the best at what they do. I recommend this book to clients, students, and colleagues.
Bravo to two excellent sex therapists!

Metz and McCarthy have done the research based on their work with troubled clients. And they know how to offer step-by-step advice on successful coping with the problem. Best of all, they take a complex issue and give people permission to explore and experiment. They see healthy sex as important, and most especially, fun.

I hope many people will find this important resource so they can end their suffering and find the joy of sexual enrichment.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very Informative Book on Premature Ejaculation, December 22, 2009
This review is from: Coping With Premature Ejaculation: How to Overcome PE, Please Your Partner & Have Great Sex (Paperback)
As a sex therapist in Orange County, I am always looking for great books to recommend to my clients to help them with the problems they bring to my office. This is the book I always suggest when a man and / or his partner complain of premature ejaculation. While the pharmaceutical companies would have you believe you can just treat the symptom, the problem is much more complex and there is so much (great stuff) to learn. Definitely a good book.

This book doesn't offer quick fixes. Instead you will be learning a little psychology, a little physiology, and some physical/mental exercises to help you retrain yourself. You will learn about yourself and about your relationships with others. With a little sustained effort and a willingness to change you can learn to free yourself to enjoy and be mentally present for every moment of sex without allowing yourself to become too excited too soon. You will learn to adopt realistic expectations for your performance so that your failure to have spontaneous Hollywood sex every time you get under the covers doesn't get in the way of your enjoyment of the act or ruin the fun and intimacy with your partner. The end result is that you will have a deeper understanding of the root issues which contribute to problems like PE or ED. With this deeper understanding you can take action to address the fundamental problems creating these issues. Rather than treating the symptoms with quick fixes like the old 'think of baseball' routine, you will learn to completely change the way you approach sex so that you don't NEED the little tricks any more.

Like I said earlier, the book is about more than just this one exact issue. In fact, the scope is wider even than sex. For those of you interested in more than just one-night-stands, you will learn about relationships and how problems with them can and will manifest between the sheets. You will learn how various emotional and sexual dysfunctions interrelate and become both causes and consequences of one another. With the knowledge I gained from this book I was able to analyze past relationships and really understand those problems I'd had with partners that had just baffled me at the time. There are heaps of mistakes in how I dealt with mates that I will never have to make again, and this will make my relationships AND sex life a lot healthier and more fun.

If you're like me before I bought this book, this may sound like more work than you want to put in. But it's worth it. It's worth every cent and it's worth your time and it's worth your effort. These guys know their stuff. If you're not convinced, keep looking up tips and tricks online. But if you're tired of listening to anonymous morons tell you that they can work 5 women at once all night long because they pinch their penis when they think they're going to come, I suggest you purchase this book and listen to what the experts have to say about understanding and altering the bigger picture for real results.

This book should be a mandatory component of sex education, for both genders.

4.0 out of 5 stars Applicability depends on who the reader is, May 7, 2010
This review is from: Coping With Premature Ejaculation: How to Overcome PE, Please Your Partner & Have Great Sex (Paperback)
This is one of the most thorough books on premature ejaculation written for the general audience. It really covers all the bases, even to the point giving suggestions on how to bring up the topic with a doctor, or choosing a therapist. The focus lies on the psychological aspects of premature ejaculation, and how to work with the issue as a couple. Thus, it discusses how to talk about sex in a relationship, approaching conflicts, expressing emotions, relaxation, body image etc.

If you are serious about developing your relationship, and you, or your partner, is suffering from premature ejaculation then this a without a doubt a 5 star book. However, I do think it is less applicable for for those who do not want involve a partner. Or not willing to put in the effort and work it takes to apply the psychological approaches and tecqhniques that are the backbone of this book. For that category of readers I would give it 4 stars.
