Book Description

September 15, 2008 0195341376 978-0195341379 1 Workbook
Do you find yourself becoming depressed as winter approaches? Do the "winter blues" affect your ability to get through the day? Do you experience a loss of pleasure in your daily life during the winter season? Does your mood lift with the return of spring? If so, you may be suffering from seasonal affective disorder or S.A.D. . This workbook can help you learn strategies to overcome the "winter blues" this year and for years to come. It can be used as part of an individual or group cognitive-behavioral therapy (C.B.T.) program, which may also be combined with light therapy. To help you understand S.A.D., this workbook describes possible causes and how symptoms progress. Each chapter corresponds to a session of therapy so you can easily follow along with the program. You will learn effective techniques to reduce S.A.D. symptoms and improve your mood. One important strategy is scheduling pleasant activities into your daily routine. Another is evaluating your thoughts and beliefs and changing them to be more positive. Forms are included to help you put these techniques into practice. With your new awareness and skills, you can stop S.A.D. symptoms from getting worse and prevent future S.A.D. episodes. You do not have to give into the "winter blues" and wait for spring to feel better. By taking steps now, you can regain control of your life and increase your well-being this winter.TreatmentsThatWorkT.M. represents the gold standard of behavioral healthcare interventions!· All programs have been rigorously tested in clinical trials and are backed by years of research· A prestigious scientific advisory board, led by series Editor-In-Chief David H. 5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Workbook March 19, 2011
By Quels
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This book offers great CBT strategies to help those dealing with depression during the winter. As a psychologist, it is often hard to find great books on depression that are easy for people who are not in the field of psychology to understand but I would definitely recommend this book to my clients as it is easy to read and offers clear strategies. The author also includes worksheets which help individuals carry out these strategies. Although it is written for a group context, it would be easy to use on an individual basis as well.

3.0 out of 5 stars SAD January 28, 2013
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
It's OK, but since I already knew a lot of the treatment there wasn't much new for me. It would probably be good for anyone who is new to SAD treatment.
