Caterpillar march!!,

YEEYEEYEEYEAAH!!! This album rocks more than anything else! I personally found it a bit difficult at first, having expected something more Kyuss-like. But now, about 10 repeats later I have to surrender, it's too damn good!! John is a very talented singer, maybe the best rock singer out there. His voice is harsh, yet emotional at times, and VERY original. There is no other like John. Deepest respect also for the rest of the band!If you're a John Garcia fan, you can't afford to miss this one!! Excellent stuff!!

well, although it doesn't have quite the scope that kyuss had, but hell, who could touch kyuss? but this isn't a bad review, not in the least. unida is by far my favorite post-kyuss group (though i though slo burn had good potential). i never was into singers that could actually sing, but john garcia won me over. he has a great voice, great lyrics, and a pretty cool stage presence (though he's been wearing the desert storm camouflage pants for like 10 years straight now...)this album is currently in my car cd player. the only song on it that i'm not too impressed with is dwarf it. eh, it's not bad, but i usually skip it. other than that? this is an ideal driving record. the last track is definitely one to cruise down an dark desolate road to. so in closing, this band/album kicks my .... and they don't disappoint live, that's for dang sure! thank you mr. garcia and friends!

Who the Hell said rock is DEAD? John Garcia is BACK,

This review is from: Coping With the Urban Coyote (Audio CD)
It is going to take something pretty special to beat this gem of an album for album of the year. Just like the Queens are doing, John Garcia has opted for a different angle on the Kyuss sound which is a good thing, for to try and be the second Kyuss would spoil the legend of that colossal band. Unida just rock so hard, all the way through the album up until the last one "You Wish", which is an unbelievable song. Ever since the mighty Kyuss demised in '95, I've been waiting to see what various band members would do. I think that this debut from Unida is only slightly better than the Queens debut. This, like the Queens of the stone age and Kyuss is some of the best rock music of the '90's. Which prick said rock is dead? It never went away, and records like this will ensure that it stays for good

best CD this year... oh yes!,

I wrote my previous review on the basis of hearing two tracks. I was convinced from those that this CD would be a belter. It is a belter! Think AC/DC done by the Cult, but better. Final track - You Wish - is probably the best possible hybrid of When The Levee Breaks by LedZep and 3 Days by Janes Addiction. Quite simply, no rock record will touch Unida this Millenium now. Buy a copy for everyone you know, they'll love it and thank you for it.

SMOKIN'! - in every sense of the word,
This review is from: Coping With the Urban Coyote (Audio CD)
This album rocks at full speed and it don't take (...) from no one. Unida is fronted by John Garcia of Kyuss so i thought they would have a pretty similar sound. Well, i was fooled - not a bad thing! The fuzzy stoner sound is bassically non-existant on this album as is the trademark Kyuss supa-bass. What is here is firery blues-based hard rock. The musicians are all competent and Garcia puts his heart into every line - he can really wail at times. They only slow down for the last track, which is a lengthy jam with a few lyrics thrown in for good measure. My favorite track is "If Only Two", but all the songs are really good.

Solid Rock,

I've been waiting for this one to come for a long time, and it didn't disapoint me. UNIDA has made an outstanding hard rockin' album. This is only the beginning of a soon-to-be great band.

The Ballsiest Of Them All,

John Garcia's Unida is a great band, and this album is one mean motha. Those expecting the spacey fuzzed out jams of Kyuss will not find it here. Instead you get eight huge rocking stoner anthems to bang your head to, full of gigantic riffs and huge vocal deliveries from John. If that's not enough, then you need to get off this page.
Quite simply every track on this album rocks hard, and John gives it everything. 'Thorn' kicks things off with a simple and catchy riff with John wailing about love and lust. Great groove throughout the song, a fine opening. Things don't really change direction, but then they don't need to. 'Black Woman' is one of my favorite moments on this, especially when the band come back in to pummelling power chords after a stylish guitar solo. Just great rock n roll. The band keep knocking out great riffs and songs. 'Plastic' is a bit of a slow burner with a real groove-laden close. 'Nervous' is probably my favorite track on the album with John's resentful delivery of 'You should have told me, you had another f*cking breakdown' laced over a monumental riff and no-nonsense skin bashing drumming. If this one doesn't get your head bobbing and toes tapping, then you have absolutely no hope. Simple try and get this album, despite it being out of print, you need this in your rock collection. Fans of Kyuss, Dozer, Karma to Burn, Hermano etc will enjoy.

Not Kyuss - but - Damn Good!!,

This CD is killer - why is it out of print!!!. A departure from Kyuss for sure, less of the muddy sound (which was sweet) and more straight ahead rock. Garcia's vocals are so strong and emotive. I wouldn't say they carry the album because the musicianship is so dialed in. But his vocals and lyrics always seem to make everything gel. Well crafted songs, no filler.
I got this baby on Ebay for $28 because it was out of print and I'm glad I did. Pick it up if you can find one. Viva la Stoner Rock!!

Ear candy with a tooth shattering metal center.,
This review is from: Coping With the Urban Coyote (Audio CD)
The first LP from world-famous Unida is the best album of 1999. It also makes history as the first full length release to feature legendary singer John Garcia since Kyuss's 1995 release "...And The Circus Leaves Town.". Unida is a solid, solid choice for fans of raw rock&roll. Almost 100% hard hitting, stripped down grooves like you love, baby. These guys throw down to keep rock alive. Check them out immediately.
