Book Description

March 1997
Copper Art Jewelry presents twentieth century designs, especially by the masters Frank Rebajes of New York and Jerry Fells, known as Renoir of California. Popular when newly created in the 1950s, these designs are avidly sought after today. Copper jewelry by other artists and manufacturers are displayed as well, along with related silver and enamel jewelry and useful objects. Enthusiasm for copper items is expanding, and this is the reference that collectors, appraisers, and art dealers have been seeking. Twentieth century styling characterizes the abstract, free-form and whimsical designs in pins, bracelets, necklaces, sets, belts and useful objects which display the artful merits of copper. Over 300 color photographs show hundreds of examples, and the original art work, advertising, identifying marks and anecdotes round out this exhaustive new study. Much of the information about Rebajes and Renoir jewelry has not been available anywhere before.

3.0 out of 5 stars Close but not quite enough info for my needs, August 4, 2008
This review is from: Copper Art Jewelry: A Different Luster (Hardcover)
This lovely book, Copper Art Jewelry, a different lustre, shows wonderful detailed photos along with long descriptions of major designers and their works. However, as a novice collector, I find the price guide to be most disappointing. Items are listed as "good, better, and best" but the descriptions with the yummy photos give no indication if the piece is "good, better, or best." So, I am no smarter at the end of the book, than at the start.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another perspective to a very rich metal!, April 14, 2009
This review is from: Copper Art Jewelry: A Different Luster (Hardcover)
This is a wonderful book for copper jewellery lovers. It is especially a good base for starting collectors. In Europe the versatility and glowing beauty of copper is not very well known. Sometimes it is even difficult to explain how it can be worked to gorgeous and glamorous items. This book opens another perspective to a very rich metal! Designers do not have to restrain themselves to save on expensive material as gold and silver are! They can have a go on glamour! Sometimes even making silver and gold looking a bit dull. This book is very inspiring documentation to new designers. And a good start to know what motivated the Masters Fells and Rebajes, also showing a glimpse of that beautiful period they influenced.

This book is a great way to find out where much of what is being done comes from very good quality and variety, some minor mistake in describing materials used, brazilian agate has been confused for acrilic
