5.0 out of 5 stars A great way to teach feelings, September 7, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Copycat!: Faces (Board book)
This is a really cute book with pictures of kids making faces to reflect emotions. The text is a sing-songy rhyme that is fun to read and easy to remember. My one year old loved it because of the other kids in it and because he could look at himself in the mirror at the end. My three year old loved it because he could copy the faces the children are making in the mirror. But the most wonderful thing was that the book was a good starting point to put words to feelings (an extremely difficult task for most young children).

4.0 out of 5 stars The mirror is terrific, but why are the kids dressed up?, July 26, 2005
This review is from: Copycat!: Faces (Board book)
My daughter adores the mirror in this book! Unlike most mirrors in books, it's big and clear---you can actually see yourself well in it. She held the book well for a long time to look at it, which is a good skill to learn (she is 11 months). The theme of the book is feelings, and the children shown are demonstrating different feelings, like anger and silliness and being surprised. The only quibble I have is that the children are all dressed up, like as a jester or Little Miss Muffet or a pirate ( I THINK, the girl dressed on that page is hard to figure out!) and I think this just distracts from showing the feelings on their faces. So many baby books show dressed up babies, and I have yet to find a baby that really is interested in or notices the costumes---they want to look at baby faces, not clothes! I think the dressing up is for the parents, to make them say "wow, how cute!" and buy the book!
