5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Solid and Effective Ideas to Your Success May 17, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I have spent a good part of the last two years studying copy and how to write words that motivate people to take an action. I have studied top Copywriters of all time Halbert, Benchenvenga, Carlton and many of the best sales letters of all time.

I can tell you getting good at copy is hard but essential if you plan to make real money online.

I would have loved to have had this book two years ago because Mike has hit something here. He really makes the essential lessons easy to understand and to use for your business quickly.

I know most business owners will not dedicate the time I have and they shouldn't to learning good copy. Yet with Mike's book they don't really have too. Also those who are more advanced will learn from his work as well.

If you are looking to improve in the one area of your business then you do need copy skills. You need to have the ability to get others to say yes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Learn Copywriting from an Expert May 16, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Whether you're just starting to learn about copywriting, or you're a seasoned copywriter, there is something for everyone in Mike Shreeve's book. He explains the theories behind what, and how, to write good copy, and he shows the 'before' and after' of what good copy looks (and feels) like.

The book is broken into logical sections, so you can follow along, and implement, at your own pace. Mike includes a number of useful tips and suggestions, and writes with a keen sense of humor. It's clear that he loves to write copy, and wants to teach what he knows to others.

I've found that books written by people that write for a living are always fun to read, and this was no exception. He's very detailed and experienced in copy writing sales letters, which is what this book covered.

BUT, if you need a FULL, step-by-step copy writing guide for network marketing, this should be a choice, but probably not the first one.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good how-to book May 15, 2014

I really enjoyed reading this book. I had no idea about what copywriting is, and how powerful it can be. It lacks some depth regarding the psychology of persuasion and writing style, but there are some great books covering those topics if you want to go deeper. The reason I'm giving 3 stars to this book is because the template at the end of the book (a nice feature) feels like a recipe for a TV infomercial, and I believe you would need special tools and skills to stand out in a highly competitive market such as copywriting. In spite of this, if you're a complete newbie as I am, Copywriting for the rest of us is a book worth reading.

5.0 out of 5 stars Short and sweet book May 12, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
A very good starting point for people too busy to read longer copywriting books.

Shreeve brings up some of the most important concepts that are in the core of good copywriting and can almost be used as a checklist for what to do or not to do:
- Copy isn't meant for entertainment, it's meant to make people take action whether that's buying something, giving away their email adress or donating to a charity. That's why all good copy NEEDS a call to action. It needs to ask the person to do something, the more explicit the better.
- The copy needs to be interesting enough to be read. The purpose of the headline is to get people to read the first sentence of the body. The purpose of the body is to get get people to read the second sentence and so on.
- Sell Benefits, not Features. If you insist on selling a feature, make sure to include the benefit to the customer of that feature. For example this book is short(a feature) and the benefit is that busy businesspeople can quickly read and apply it's content and therefore make more money(a benefit).

Shreeve also goes into a process for writing and there's plenty more gems in there that'll help you quickly improve your copy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Copywriting is getting people to do something May 19, 2013

I really like this ebook. You learn what is copywriting, the biggest mistakes you can make, and what to do instead, with lots of actionable information. According to the author it is crucial to create an avatar, the ideal customer, create emotional excitement, write logically and create a compelling story. He shows examples for every step mentioned. One of the author's suggestions is to have your writing read by the meanest people you can find and rewrite it, repeat the step etc. I would not find many people in my life willing to read any kind for copywriting and giving me qualified feedback, so the author's suggestion to join a critique group for that purpose is gread advice. To improve your copywriting skill, he suggests to invest 10 minutes a day for your personal education. I am not so sure 10 minutes a day would be enough for me to improve. What I could not figure out is the meaning of the title "... for the rest of us". This does not reduce the value of the book, I'm just wondering ...
The book is a good read and delivers valuable information, so I recommend it.
