this is a pretty good guide for snorkelers, March 5, 2011
This review is from: Guide to Corals and Fishes of Florida, the Bahamas and the Caribbean (Paperback)
Although not totally comprehensive, and although maybe a few common species are missing, this is a good first guide for beginners and casual fish watchers; our fishing guide in Panama even liked it a lot. Remember that there's a lot of fish in the sea, and to get sure identification, you need a more comprehensive field guide as a 2nd reference. We have used this in the waters of Quintana Roo, Belize, Honduras, and Panama, and found it to be pretty good in all those places. The background information on edible species, hazardous species, etc. is helpful. Use it to get acquainted with the main types of fish, and then go one to more detailed books if you get into it (and I hope you do). The book is weak on worms, corals, sponges, etc. But if you are a casual snorkeller who wants to learn more about the fish you see in the caribbean , this is a good start.
