Alejandro STRIPPED down!,

Alejandro Fernandez's latest pop album is a fresher and more contemporary sound than his fans are accustomed to. Gone are the LUSH arrangements by a symphony orchestra. The focus instead is on a more personal, acoustic sound.
Usually when a performer attempts an "unplugged" album, the result is rough and raw. It is impossible for Alejandro's voice to ever be raw. It is soft and velvety, better than ever. This album is hard to describe in many ways. The songs all have the same theme, love lost, regrets, a broken heart. I am one of those die hard fans that ADORES the melodramatic LUSH over the top romantic power ballads that he is famous for. I am an incurable romantic! I love cheesy black and white movies on tv and the violins in the background. As much as I love the classic, romantic sound........i can appreciate what Alejandro and Kike Santander have done here. The sound is so CLEAR and so SPARSE. Its as if you were listening to Alejandro in the corner club or café with a 3 piece ensemble. It is very intimate. Many of the songs have just a hint of horns.....just enough to remind you that Alejandro is "Hecho En Mexico"! Its that slight touch of horns that makes the songs irresistible. Then, just when you think the whole entire album is ballads........there is "Se Va" to WAKE YOU UP! It's a sort of David Bisbal goes to Mexico tune! I saw Alejandro perform this. Bisbal would be flying around the stage on this! Poor alex doesn't dance, but he makes up for it with 'interesting' moves of his own! The last song on the album is a SALSA version of "Me Dedique a perderte" ! Watch out Marc Anthony! I would not have believed it either. This album comes with many extras not normally included. There is a dvd that has 2 videos......"Me Dedique a Perderte" and "Luchare por tu Amor"........terrific concert tour footage that is SO CUUTEEE.....and a chronology that zips through ten years of videos in 60 seconds! So the ranchera fans will probably not like this too much. They do not want Alejandro to change. However, he has so much talent, and so much potential. It would be a crime to hold him back. Who knows what he is capable of? He is a work in progress, and the evolution is amazing to watch. p.s. for the techies, the cd interacts with the official website. you pop it into the cd drive and ConnecteD will bring you to a page of behind the scenes videos and other exclusives.

Alejandro has proven to us once again just how far and wide his talents reach. In his new album he exposes an inner reflection of himself so sincere and so open that it's been a one of a kind album so far in his career.
The lyrics are poetic, the arrangements are magical, and the quality of the production is top of the line. As a loyal fan for more than ten years, I'm proud to recommend this amazing recollection of heartfelt songs. Every note drips with emotion and one has to only listen and realize that here is a man who is the best at what he does.

the best yet,

no one has a better voice to sing these types of ballads than alejandro. i know he's famous for and loves his homeland mariachi-type music, but ballads are where the depth and range of his voice are shown off. every single one of these songs will put you in such a mood! i really can't say one is a favorite because they're all excellent. when a mellow, relaxing and/or romantic mood is what you're after, you could listen to this CD all day long. i could. i've never heard anyone else sing whose voice alone touched me so much that i wished i could meet them. i'd love to know the person who belongs to this voice!

This is Alejandro Fernandez's third non-ranchera CD. While Alejandro's singing is as magnificent as ever, compared to the voluptous Me Estoy Enamerando and the powerfully emotional Entre Tus Brazos, A Corazon Abierto comes up a little short. Overall, the ballads lack the magic of the previous albums; that "secret ingredient" that made them so wonderful is missing.
Not that there are not pleasures to be had. The album seems to fall into a "3 on, 3 off" pattern. The first three songs are quite nice, the next three less interesting. The following three, (7,8,9) are good, the next three really bland. There is also an unlisted, 13th track, which is a salsa version of Me Dedique Perderte. I would never have imagined Alejandro as a salsa singer, and he really doesn't show himself to be one here, but the version is quite interesting nonetheless. THe songs are by the amazingly prolific Kike Santander, who has written a great number of memorable songs with a variety of artists. But he is not as inspired here. If anything, Alejandro's vocals have become more magnificent than effer. His singing is absolutely breathtaking, deeply masculine, sensous, sexy, technically superb, without a trace of pretension, affectation or histrionics. It is not easy to sing like this and not sound like Englebert Humperdinck. Oftentimes it takes a really good song to realize the potential of a singer -- with Alejandro even a phone book would sound ravishing. "Tengo Ganas" is noteworthy, not so much for the song, but for his truly magnificent singing. I would say A Corazon is worth having, if for no other reason than a so-so Alejandro album is worth more than most music by anyone else. But it is not an album I will treasure quite as much as his previous 2 pop albums. The recording quality is excellent, with superb clarity and prescence.

This album makes others take a second look. The insturmental combination is one of a kind. His producers did an outstanding job in combining classical sound with new generation sound.
This CD will leave you speachless. The voice of Alejandro Fernandez is better than ever and will leave you ladies with your hearts pounding. Buy it and enjoy it especially the single "Me dedique a perderte".

Is it possible for alejandro fernandez to go wrong? Once again he shows us why he is one of the best latin singers out there today. This cd shows the range of his voice and what great of a singer he is. Buy this cd you won't regret it.

Nice balance between the Alejandro's ranchera and pop voices,
By
This review is from: A Corazon Abierto (Audio CD)
While his pop debut "Me Estoy Enamorando" may have been too pop for fans of traditional ranchera music and the ranchera albums that established him as a force in Mexican music did not suit the tastes of mainstream pop audiences, "A Corazon Abierto" strikes the proper balance between the two.
On this album, florid ranchera instrumentation combined with Fernandez's rich, buttery vocals and pop melodies result in a production everyone will enjoy. At the same time, the album leaves listeners nostalgic for their Alejandro Ferdandez---whether that is the sultry pop version or the charro suit, mariachi version. Pay special attention to "Canta Corazon", an irreverent but infectious love song. High points of the album also include "Que Voy a Hacer Con Mi Amor" and "Me Dedique A Perderte". |
