A Comprehensive LOOK at the work of le Corbusier,
By Mark O. Miller (Boston, Massachusetts) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Le Corbusier 1910-65 (German, French and English Edition) (Paperback)
For those (like myself) who want a good look at the work of le Corbusier, this is the book for you! Dividing his projects by type (eg houses, museum projects, etc) and including a summary of his theory of architectural proportion (le modulor) and an overview of his urban planning projects, the editors provide copious photos of models and plans, (and photos of the actual buildings for those that reached execution -- many did not). Paragraph length captions are trilingual: the original French, English and German. (Interestingly, my comparison of the English to the French revealed information that did not overlap, being more complete sometimes in French, sometimes in English! Omissions were not critical, however.) The book begins with a short biographical summary and a chronological list of architectural works, as well as publications by and about le Corbusier. The interested student will obtain a sound foundation and a starting point for more in-depth study. The interested amateur will come away with a good concept of what le Corbusier was trying to accomplish.
