Editorial Reviews

Review

"...as well as a `gem' from the consistently fabulous Princeton Architectural Press, Le Corbusier and the Maisons Jaoul: `Le Corbusier designed very few personal homes, but the Maisons Jaoul was an exception. He was close friends with the family. This book documents in great detail the entire creative and building process of two houses for a father and son. A fascinating look behind the scenes of the creation of a masterpiece of domestic architecture and an unexpectedly intimate work by the great guru of industrial apartment blocks.'" --Shelfari

Corb is often maligned by architects and especially by the less unformed american public due to his famous words re: the house as a "machine for living". This book explores his later period, his work with the crafts and materials of other cultures and is an illuminating volume that I recommend to architects in practice and study today.

Interior Graphic layout is pleasing with full page Corbusian colors separating chapters. Exterior is without dust jacket, cover images are integrally wrapped to hardcover, a physical disappointment to a traditionalist like myself.
There was something new to learn about Corbusier and this project on every page. It seemed to be a fast read. I am pleased to have added this to my collection. I was left with the feeling that there was something missing. It is possible, I imagine, a separate book could be made from each chapter.
