Its hard to believe that anyone has bought a Corby Trouser Presser without having become familiar with it first - they are in use in thousands of hotels all over the world. However, judging by the reviews, people have obviously taken the name "Trouser Presser" rather literally, and expected that it will press your pants like a dry cleaner, or remove wrinkles like a steamer. Let's be clear about this - it will not! Most of us like to wear our (expensively dry-cleaned) pants for more than one day, and the Corby is a place to hang them overnight, gently warm and stretch them to remove wrinkles behind the knee, and "freshen-up" the press for the next day. The reason the Corby is the brand leader has to do with a unique lip on the edge of the press which stretches the pants, and the superior grip of the rubberized heating surfaces. So, if you know what its meant to do, you'd give it five stars, as do most leading hotels in the world, but if you have unrealistic expectations, you will be sorely disappointed.

This product does everything it says it does. A few wrote in about not ironing in the waist areas..it's not designed to. It's also not supposed to get real hot, hence- it's a low-heat iron, using pressure, not the temperature of the sun, to take out the wrinkles. Also by doing so, I've noticed that many of my newer slacks are not being as worn thin as quickly. Perhaps I just iron too hard.I use my press everyday. About 30 minutes before I go to bed, I put in a pair of slacks, let the press perform its magic and presto, my pants are ready to go for the morning. Does this totally replace ones iron? Of course not. If you're looking to never have to iron again, get a maid. If your looking for a less expensive way of getting your trousers looking fresh for work, rather than spending mucho dinero at the dry cleaners, buy a Corby. The Corby performs better than I expected. It's great!

Never Have to Iron Your Pants Again!,
By Richard McCluney (Burlingame , CA USA) - See all my reviews

This is just a great product, especially if you hate ironing or taking all your pants to the drycleaners to get pressed. There is nothing more annoying than over time spending $100 dry cleaning a $30 pair of Chinos, 'cos you need them pressed. I am not sure why it is not as popular in US as elsewhere, but I highly recommend it.The only drawback on the old model was that the foam on the inside of the press, after about six years, developed grooves that detracted from the press of trousers.

Save Money, Look Smart,

I have been using a Corby for almost 15 years. The only things that don't go in it are jeans, shirts, and ties. I have saved a lot of money on cleaning and pressing, which also saves on fabric wear. Why everyone doesn't own a Corby is beyond me. In Europe, every hotel has a presser. I looked at other pressers, but Corby has the reputation to back its product.

I had previously bought the Orion Press Pro and it causes wrinkles. The Corby does a very good job of pressing my pants. It's longer than the others and will press all the legs and I'm 6' tall. Don't expect it to press the area above the legs, none do. But it gives a nice, flat press and a nice crease.

I have been using Corby pants pressers in my home for more than twenty years -- ever since I found them at a hotel in London. I have four pressers -- two for my wife and two for me --one each in our northern home, and one each in our southern vresidence.
This one replaces a Corby Pants Presser that broke after 3 years -- and can not be fixed (the heating element broke -- and manufacturer would not repair the item.) This is the first time we had one where the heating element broke. Previously the timing device had broken on one. The Corby presser still does a great job -- and would rate a 5 star -- if we did not have these broken and not repairable problems.

Excellent device that saves money,

I have used mine for over a year and have saved way over the cost of the machine. Since I wear dress slacks every day the presser keeps me from having to take slacks back after one use. I get two wears out of my slacks now as long as I hang them up. The machine isn't a mircale worker but does exactly what I need and what it promised.

Does nothing to wrinkle pants,

Don't buy this thinking you will never iron your pants again.I tried both wrinkled and ironed pants on this thing and saw nothing that would justify its purchase. Plus, only the bottom portion (the legs) go into the machine. This means that the part around your butt, front, and waist is left to itself. And if you are 6 feet and above, then only about 80% of the legs go into the machine. It is designed for short people. It is nothing but a fancy closet appliance. You are way better off with an iron, and the plies you get with an iron are a billion time better than what this thing promise to deliver. I returned it the next day.

works but not what I expected,
This review is from: Corby 5500 Original Trouser Presser (Kitchen)
I also was disapointed with the product but maybe I expected too much. It does seem to perform an adequate job of getting out those wrinkles around the knees by pressing a pair of pants from the bottom of the pockets down to the cuff. I am 6-4 so it appears that the machine might cover more area on a shorter pair of pant. But if you're expecting to never iron your slacks again forget it. It does not touch the pockets or butt area. But then looking at the machine I now realize it was never meant to do that anyway. I was hoping to discove a secret device to make my life easier and me look better. Instead I have a curiosity that I'm not so sure I want to show my friends.

Very Dissappointed,
By
This review is from: Corby 5500 Original Trouser Presser (Kitchen)
I've owned one of these before and liked how it performed, but the current version of this product is poor. First, it doesn't have the capability to take the knee wrinkles out like prior versions, probably because it is made with cheap, fragile plastic where it counts most, the upper strectch lever and the "fancy" new way to catch the bottom of slacks doesn't work most of the time. I am looking for a better unit. Too bad good companies cheapen there product to the point that they become just another commodity provider of junk.
