They left out some important features.,

I like this phone okay, but the most annoying thing is there's no backlight for the LCD display. It's annoying to look at the LCD display to try to see who's calling but you can't unless the ambient light level around this phone is high enough. None of the buttons are backlit either, so forget about using this phone in the dark. Lastly, there's no hold feature to this phone.
On the plus side, though, it does seem pretty solidly built and is fairly compact so it doesn't take up much desk space.

I purchased this phone for Caller ID and a digital answering machine. It has lots of other features too. I paid $20 for it. Overall, it's a slick, simple phone. Great looking and easy to use.
My favorite feature is it's Caller ID Announce. When activated and a call comes in, a voice announces the number calling. I also like default outgoing message "Please leave a message" in a computer voice. The ringer options are only OK. Most of them are a little high pitched and annoying. Also, the cord to the handset was super short. I immediately purchased a longer cord. This phone has many bells and whistles, but they are all easy to set-up and change with the touch of a button.

Bought this for a small professional office. The voice quality on playback from remote is poor. It is relatively okay but not nearly up to old AT&T standards. It is also difficult to get the machine to respond remotely to the touch tone signal code both on land line and cell phones. Disappointing.

I actually needed only a wall phone for the kitchen than also had caller ID. This unit has an answering system as well, so I got rid of my 20-year old answering machine to boot. Having a speakerphone system is perfect for handsfree duties in the kitchen and the volume control goes pretty high. The instruction book is well written and easy to follow - I had to refer to it once to determine how to call in remotely to pick up my messages. It's very easy to change set paramters such as the outgoing message or number of rings as well. Good buy.

If you are looking for a corded phone with with a digital answering system, caller ID, speed dial capability, and a speaker phone, this is a good choice at a good price. I am happy with this product.

If you plan to mount this phone, then you'll not have a problem with the fact that the phone cord out-weighs the phone unit. The original cord is too short, so you'll want to get a longer one, but the phone is so light that as the cord slips to the ground, the phone goes with it. I've had no complaints from callers when using the speaker portion and have walked about 4-6ft from phone at times, which says a lot for the sensitivity of the mic. Besides the light-weight aspect, I'd also would like the caller ID illuminated - when it's night and I just have the computer monitor for lighting, the reading on the phone is difficult to see.

After my old Panasonic speaker phone died (from spilling a beer on the keys), I bought one locally. I ended up returning it because the speaker volume was too low. The reviews for this one looked good, so I bought one.
The speaker volume for this phone is more than adequate, and the mic is sensative enough that I can use the phone from 4 or 5 feet away. I find the caller ID very useful. My only wish is that there was a hold button. The panasonic had that, and it was very useful for times when I needed to go to a different floor to pass a call on to someone else in my family.

All I needed was a corded phone with speakerphone, mute and a digital answerer. I'm very happy finding those features for this price.
The manual is not particularly user friendly but it does state everything that you need. (For example, the person who didn't know how to replay messages more than once should just press and hold the play button. The person who couldn't change the ringer volume should just press the volume button while the phone is not in use). Most other reviewers covered the true negatives: wall mounting, no backlit caller ID, no backlit buttons and no hold button. The only thing I can add is that the phone seems to call me back after I hang up, and I can't quite figure out why. If those negatives are your priority, definitely choose another phone. Otherwise this phone is an excellent buy!

Overall, this is a very good phone with many solid features. My only complaint is that there is no way to adjust the volume for the message alert. Because of the poor location of the phone jack in my kitchen, I have to put this phone in the master bedroom upstairs. Unlike my last AT&T phone, which allowed me to adjust the volume of the message alert, this one has a very quiet beep, and the volume can't be adjusted.
If you plan to put this phone in an out-of-the-way location, you may want to consider a different phone. Otherwise, you will have to visually check the phone to see if you have messages.

Very bad,
This review is from: AT&T 1855 Corded Telephone with Digital Answering System and Speakerphone (Office Product)
I bought one of these systems 18 months ago - the first one broke down and AT&T replaced it BUT I had to pay for mailing cost. Now after 12 months the second one has broken down. It will not take messages. The phone works and the answering system is answering but not taking messages. Very disappointing experience. Do not recommend.
