5.0 out of 5 stars Corduroy Goes to the Doctor
This is an excellent book to prepare your child before going to the doctor. Many children are afraid of the unexpected. Being in the medical field, I find that children who are prepared beforehand do better. This book describes Corduroy's day at the doctor. It gives vivid pictures of him entering the office, being weighed, and having his throat and ears examined. It...

3.0 out of 5 stars Ok for the little ones, but I'd love to see it re-edited
Ok, my 18-month old enjoys this book, and it is helping him with office visit anxiety (ER is a whole 'nother issue...).

However. Why does a book intended for very small children make a big deal about WEIGHT??? Girls have enough problems about this issue at younger and younger ages. Boys are also beginning to have more problems as well.

As the...

This review is from: Corduroy Goes to the Doctor (Board book)
This is an excellent book to prepare your child before going to the doctor. Many children are afraid of the unexpected. Being in the medical field, I find that children who are prepared beforehand do better. This book describes Corduroy's day at the doctor. It gives vivid pictures of him entering the office, being weighed, and having his throat and ears examined. It also shows the doctor listening to Corduroy's heart while giving him breathing instructions! At the end Corduroy gets a shot as the doctor explains, "We don't want you to get sick." My daughter (age 3) is great at the doctor's office and I really owe a lot to it to Corduroy! My daughter loves Corduroy!

5.0 out of 5 stars A very helpful book, December 1, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Corduroy Goes to the Doctor (Board book)
This short and simple book has been very helpful to me. My 1 year old son has to go to the doctor VERY OFTEN for ear infections. He seems to relate well to seeing what Corduroy does there, and we talk about when he does to the doctor and they do those things. I think it would be helpful to explain to children who don't have to go often as well, in knowing what to expect. The pictures are great, and the words are simple and to the point for young children.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect to overcome your kids fear of the doctor!, April 1, 2007

My little 2 1/2 year old always cried and screamed when he would go to the doctor. Before his next appointment, we got this book and it made a huge difference. Everytime the doctor would check him, he would say "like Corduroy Daddy?" I would say yes and he would let the doctor do what she needed to do. This book is very cute and works very well.

Honestly, I'm glad some parents have found this book helpful in preparing their children for doctor's visits. Personally, though, I like it because it is:

1. Short.

2. Colorful, with simple illustrations.

3. Featuring Corduroy. Not Corduroy as I knew him as a child, but Corduroy who my 1.5 year old son cannot tear apart (he's not READY for a longer book, and how could the classic Corduroy tales be retold in 12 pages?).

4. Has something of a plot--arrives at the office at the beginning, leaves at the end. A lot of adaptation books like this (including some in this series) lack that VERY important element, in my opinion.

My son passionately likes all the books in the Corduroy Board book series--the illustrations, number of pages, and amount of text per page are PERFECT for a young toddler. I'm not sure why this book is recommended by Amazon for 4-8 years old--not knowing that age group well, I can only say that for the 12 month and up crowd, these books are great!

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for our little one!, May 16, 2011

We bought this book after our 16 month old started to get a little nervous around the doctor. The book is PERFECT! everything in the book is laid out exactly like any doctor's office, and it helps our little one know and recognize what she sees when she goes for her checkup!

I highly recommend buying this book, even before 1 years old so that your child can get used to seeing what is in a doctors office and what to expect when you get there.

Purchased this in time for my 15mo.old's checkup, read it to her a few days ahead of time, and again in the doctor's office while pointing out similarities in the book. Don't know if it was a coincidence, but she went through her whole visit without incident, including getting blood drawn. Recommend to all my mommy friends.

My son used to cry a river EVERY time we went to the doctor. Now, he is able to talk thru the appointment and know what to expect next. This is a MUST HAVE for all parents with toddlers who seem apprehensive about going to see the doctor!

5.0 out of 5 stars Cute and sweet for little tots, March 6, 2009
This is a sweet little book for ages 1 - 3. The character is familiar, and little ones can relate as Corduroy goes to the doctor for a checkup and gets a shot. It helps prepare toddlers for an experience that can be scary to them. The book is easy to read to a very young child with short sentences and simple concepts. My son got this when he was around 12 months and he read it until it fell apart. I'm getting a new one for his little brother.

We read this book constantly. It has been a great way to teach my 28 month old not to be afraid of going to the doctor and getting shots, etc. It has really worked for us. I think because she loves Corduroy so much she can relate. It is a great book.

As the parent of a little one who is so active its difficult to keep him interested at meal/snacktime to eat enough, this is unacceptable.

So the page has never been read as presented. I talk to him about being measured to see how tall he's growing.

Please think about this page and the message it sends before reading to ANY child. This issue is not appropriate for the intended audience.
