1.0 out of 5 stars Save your money, July 22, 2008

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Core Mind Builder Pro (CD-ROM)
The "top test experts" who designed these tests seem to have given up half way. Some questions are good indicators of intelligence, and some are outright worthless. Questions like "what is the name of a school of trout" are sure to stump a lot of people, but not because only really smart people know this sort of thing, but rather because the term is not in common use and most people have no reason to need to know it.

There are also plenty of "complete this pattern" type questions, though some of the patterns lack sufficient contextual information for any person, no matter how brilliant, to have a prayer of figuring it out (unless they just remember the answer from the last time they saw it on the test). It is always easy to say "well if you were smart enough you would have figured it out," but that is not always true; some questions are based on too arbitrary a set of assumptions to be a useful judge of intelligence.

If you want to exercise your brain, just use any of the free online tests to judge your progress (or cough up the cash for a respectable test like the WAIS or whatever). Until then, just practice your math, logic, and vocabulary training...that is what most of these tests wind up fixating on anyway (and there are many free resources for this online...google is your friend!).

2.0 out of 5 stars Great for mensa intelect, not for beginners, January 9, 2008
This review is from: Core Mind Builder Pro (CD-ROM)
I wanted a product intended to elevate my IQ and expected a product intended for those who are not Mensa level IQ's. What I found was a product not intended for "beginner" or "intermediate" levels but perfect for those with very high IQ's already.
Not at all what I wanted.
Mike
