Fantastic Video!!!,

This review is from: Core Throwing Techniques of the Kodokan Judo Syllabus Volume 2: Dai Nikyo [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I recently purchased this video and was expecting a basic Judo throws instructional. However, I was very surprised to find this to be one of the most thorough Judo throw videos I've ever seen! I have hundreds of instructional videos and this one is by far the best when it comes to Judo throwing instruction. What sets this apart from most other material is Steve Cunningham's unique approach to teaching the material. Mr. Cunningham explains the material in such a way that I saw things about these techniques I've never picked up before. I've been training for years yet was able to learn new details to basic techniques from this material. I highly recommend this to anyone involved in the throwing arts!!!

This is by far the best video I have seen. The quality and content is great. I am currently a Judo instructor at a major University and have been doing Judo for over 20 years. I have had the opportunity of working with Steven Cunningham and can not wait for the rest of the series to come out. If you can only buy on tape to help you with your Judo, this is the one.

This video is even better than the first one. Finally the Gokyo no Waza is revealed as a system for teaching Judo, not just a random collection of techniques. This series has raised the bar for Judo instruction to new levels, and moved the United States Judo Association to the forefront as a provider of quality instructional materials and high standards of performance. The quality of the techniques is simply astounding; they are quite possibly the best techniques set down on video since Mifune passed away. The presentation is clear and concise, and as before, production standards on this tape are extremely high. This video series is destined to become one of the classics of Judo; no library will be complete without them.

If you have an interest in Judo, either Classical or Sport, this tape is an excellent resource. Steve Cunningham has an exceptional ability to teach Judo principles and the individual techniques of the Gokyo No Waza. Every time I watch this tape, I learn something new. Just a great resource!

I am currently trying to figure out if Mr. Cunningham is maybe a professor by profession. This video is of a scholarly quality and seriousness. I simply can not express how good it is.This video have exceeded all my expectations. I was originally looking to learn basic, fundamental techniques of Judo, so that I can establish my (currently beginner's) Judo career on the strong fundamentals.

It is a complete shame that Cunningham Sensei has not finished this series! With the deterioration of judo (and most traditional martial arts into sport) this series is a demonstration of the incredible depth of Jigoro Kano and the art he created. If your interest is in sport judo, this video can teach you how NOT to perform a throw using muscle. If you are interested in true Judo the way Kano envisioned it (from his mastery of Jujutsu,) this video series is an absolute must. The problem lies in the reality that there are so few sensei around today who really understand how the Gokyo was designed and how to teach Seiryoku Zenyo - Maximum efficiency. Cunningham Sensei is one of those rare few, and his assistants, excellent sensei in their own rights, demonstrate how to execute correct ukemi. I believe if this team were to finish the series, the world of judo would change for the better.

I have purchased both the tapes done by Mr. Cunningham and I am pleased with the professional product presented. I have never seen so much attention to detail and information dense placed into a video such as these two offered. If one is interested in the throwing aspect of judo and is interested in a person with lineage going back to the beginning, these tapes are for you.Sean |
