4.0 out of 5 stars Vinnie still has it!!
Based on other internet reviews of this album that some referred to as 'not typical Vinnie' or 'jazzy' I was hesitant . These people may only know the shredding Vinnie of 1986 but if you have enjoyed his playing over the years especially his most recent with UFO (be sure to check out the new UFO album Visitor) then I say Vinnie still has it! While the album isn't as...

3.0 out of 5 stars A couple good songs...
I guess it would be better to say I love the songs, but the SOUND. Here is where it gets complicated. Nothing is wrong with the sound either. BUT I think Vinnie is just interested in different types of crunchy guitar sounds and ideas. I wish all of the songs were the same, and more like his nicer sounding guitar tones on the last few tracks. Not to say any of this is...

While the album isn't as 'metal' as past work and slightly mellower in some parts, the lead work is still classic Vinnie. The album may have a hint of jazz or blues but it is clearly still a ROCK record ala a mature Vinnie in 2009. Bottom line if you like great lead guitar work, current UFO and Vinnie in general, this album is for you. Enjoy!!

5.0 out of 5 stars as I hoped for, August 1, 2009
This review is from: To the Core (Audio CD)
I've always liked Vinnie's music ever since I bought my first copy of "Minds Eye". When he joined UFO I was hoping he would develope his skills in a way that playing with other guys with ideas of their own can. Success! On this cd [ to the core ] he shows that growth. The songs are less straight forward and more structered.I still enjoy the straitforward stuff but it is great to hear him expand his skills. Thanks UFO for being the guys that helped in Vinnie's growth. Not taking anything away from Vinne,he after all he is the one that gave Ufo an incredible talent to work with.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is the Vinny Moore CD I've been waiting for, September 23, 2009
This review is from: To the Core (Audio CD)
I was a fan of Vinnie Moore's first record, Mind's Eye (yup, I bought it in the 80's and still have it on Vinyl), but never really got into is playing after that, I've tried, I have a few of his other CD's, the one I liked the best (besides this) is his live disc. This CD, is fantastic, I like it better then Mind's Eye. The compositions, production and playing are all great. Vinnie really put out a very strong CD this time around. If your a fan of instrument rock guitar, then you'll probably like it.

Vinnie's still got it. A departure from his early neo-classical fusion material but very nice. The slower jazzier tunes make me wish he would put out an entire recording in that style or maybe even an entirely acoustic set. Buy it!

5.0 out of 5 stars More brew from Vinnie, July 19, 2009

I,ve been waiting for this recording for 5 years, and it hasn't disappointed me. Vinnie used to be compared with Yngwie Malmsteen, but thats not really fair. I always thought he wrote tasteful songs, and he bounces around with styles quite a bit on this record.Ones a little jazzy, then you got some blues stuff, then you have the classical influence, then a little mid-eastern style. Vinnie always put me in a place that no other guitarist has,I close my eyes and I feel like I'm flying through the stars. Vinnies guitar tone on this is fantastic, some of the solos ,as always, are dazzling, and you have to sit back and say wow. Its not quite as balls to the wall as his earlier stuff, but but the songs are moving and musically superb. Vinnie has grown tremendously since his first album. I hope he doesn't make me wait as long for the next recording.

5.0 out of 5 stars New Moore CD hits you "To the Core", June 20, 2009

I had always heard or read what a great player Vinnie Moore is but never picked up any of his stuff.
On the band UFO's website I read he had released a new solo cd, so on a whim I picked up the disc and gave it a listen.
Holy friggin' crap what an outstanding and talented player!
This is the best guitar instrumental disc I heard so far this year!
From beginning to end, it's just an excellent cd and This will be in my cd player for quite some time.
You have to put him up there with Vai, Satriani, Gilbert, Johnson and the rest of the greats.
Go out and get this cd.

Summer of 2009 - Vinnie Moore steps up to the plate to deliver his new, fabulous cd - To The Core. It's a home run! Well worth the wait to all his many guitar music fans - it's been a while since his last solo work. This new collection of modern melodic tunes is nothing short of amazing. Many tube tone flavors - one hears rock/soul/panic/remorse/exotic/sexy, saxy jazz/ - ear candy indeed! A true master of the fretted instrument and inspiring song-writing!

Thanks for the great music, Vinnie. We missed ya!

What can I say, this is a great instrumental CD! Vinnie Moore shows off his skill in a balanced and melodic manner, unlike some who just noodle all over. The tunes each have a musical story to tell and are engaging. The production is outstanding. If you like instrumental guitar, you should go out and get this one, it's not to be missed.
