Product Description

Amazon.com Review

The 10th edition of anything is certainly a milestone, and in the software industry, version 10 is seen about as often as a UFO. CorelDRAW 10 marks Corel's foray into the world of software legends. Corel has taken this milestone with grand aplomb, packaging a stellar collection of graphics utilities that will stand the test of time, of course until CorelDRAW 20 is released.

The package consists of two old hats, CorelDRAW and Corel Photo-Paint, updated with new features and a unified interface. Included as well is Corel R.A.V.E, a vector-based animation suite that can create streaming Flash animations for interactive, high-impact Web content. Throw it all together with more fonts, photos, and clip-art than you can shake a digital stick at (over 30,000), and you've got an unbeatable graphics powerhouse that will help you tackle any print or online need.

All three applications in the CorelDRAW 10 suite now share the same interface elements, including toolbars, option palettes, and filters. Tools you use in CorelDRAW are likely to be the same as tools you use in Photo-Paint or R.A.V.E. Techniques you hone in one environment can be instantly applied to another, making it much easier to perform a wider variety of tasks.

CorelDRAW 10 offers unparalleled control over previously daunting tools. Even complex tasks such as extruding a two-dimensional object into three dimensions, or applying mesh-based and multiple-step gradient fills have been streamlined as interactive tools. With R.A.V.E., Corel not only provides a powerful vector-based animation program, but one with a customizable interface and component mechanism that allows the importing and exporting of many formats, including the popular Macromedia Flash movie format. Photo-Paint allows spectacular control over almost any aspect of photo manipulation. In addition to hundreds of templates for family photos, greeting cards, Web pages, and slide shows, Photo-Paint offers friendly and succinct controls for advanced photo-editing tools such as dust and scratch removal, hue and tint corrections, red-eye reduction, and many incredible high-quality special effects.

Altogether, this suite of applications allows the user to harness the combined power of three stellar programs to create interactive or static art, Web pages, slide shows, printed brochures, photo albums, greeting cards, and much more. The CorelDRAW 10 suite delivers a virtually unbeatable one-two punch of power and usability, further justifying the dozens of awards that Corel has won over the many years they have spent making spectacular software. --Victor Andersen--This review is for CorelDraw 10.0

3.0 out of 5 stars Pretty Good Upgrade, March 27, 2001
This review is from: CorelDRAW 10.0 Upgrade (CD-ROM)
As a long time user of CorelDraw software, I have always found CorelDraw and Photo-Paint to be buggy. Fortunately, the depth and breadth of features usually helps to assuage the drawbacks. I recently upgraded from version 8 to version 10 and true to form, had mixed results. Overall, the package seemed to be a little less quirky than previous versions. The Corel interface IS more consistently applied across all applications. Web support and integration IS much better but not nearly as thorough as Macromedia Fireworks and Flash. And there IS more application compatibility and file type support. Nothing in CorelDraw 10 or Photo-Paint 10 are "must haves" (at least not for me) in comparison to version 8.

Corel R.A.V.E. 1.0, the new application in the CorelDraw suite is a very promising animation package but exceptionally buggy and feature poor - even for a new product (see the Corel R.A.V.E. newsgroup at corel.com to get a flavor for the issues). R.A.V.E. generates Flash movies (SWF files) but doesn't stack up to Flash for features, completeness or compactness of rendered files. Of course, to use all of the Flash features, you have to pay a premium price and live through a very steep learning curve. R.A.V.E.'s drastically simpler user interface and added support for SVG file formats (the W3C proposed standard for vector graphics) are good omens for the future - provided SVG can make inroads into Macromedia's dominance of animated vector graphics for the web. Corel is on the right track with R.A.V.E. but it just doesn't measure up to the competition - at least not yet.

The bottom line? CorelDraw 10 and Photo-Paint 10 are topnotch drawing and photo editing software applications that together represent a very good value. If Corel R.A.V.E. was market ready (and it's not), the combination would have been an unbelievable value.

5.0 out of 5 stars Corel's Latest Gem - CorelDraw 10, November 12, 2000

This review is from: CorelDRAW 10.0 Upgrade (CD-ROM)
This new version of Corel's excellent CorelDraw family is a true upgrade. There are plenty of new features and lots of refinements of previous tools in CorelDraw 10. The interface is crisp, more user-friendly and easier to navigate than previous versions.

CorelDraw and Corel Photo-Paint both have enhanced image processing capabilities such as anti-aliasing and new fill options. Corel R.A.V.E. is an extremely powerful animation tool that in no way resembles the historical CorelMOVE.

All-round CorelDraw 10 is a great application and excellent value for money. The package is far better value than any competition as it includes a vector, raster, animation, font utility and more, plus loads of clipart, fonts and tight web integation.

5.0 out of 5 stars CorelDRAW! 10 just rocks!, November 9, 2000

Corel 10 is the best thing to come along since....well....since Corel 8! :-)

There are a lot of great new features and it's really stable (but still watch out for the patches later on). I especially like the fact that you can publish Flash files and PDF's with ease. And so many people thought that RAVE was going to be an upgrade of the old CorelMOVE, but it's not. They've really created it from the ground up and made a great program for creating animated graphics for the web!

As usual, Corel throws in everything PLUS the kitchen sink. For anyone who is interested in a well-rounded, inexpensive, professional publishing package this is it!! It includes a top-notch vector graphics package (DRAW), a raster (bitmap, photo, etc..) based package (PhotoPaint -- which is as good as Adobe Photoshop), an animated graphics package (RAVE) and a variety of other useful tools for use in image tracing, media management and more.

You would have to spend a couple thousand dollars on other programs to come close to what this suite includes in ONE package! This is a defenite MUST BUY!!!
