among most creative ,innovative and Master teachers today..,
By A Customer
This review is from: Coreldraw Studio Techniques (Paperback)
Studio Techniques by Gary Priester has been the most inspirational corel draw book I have (and I have read many). His ability to teach many skills and techniques in just one of his tutorials is absolutely amazing....His ability to use colors and create truely "gem like" creations with them has left me with my mouth open more than once! All of this means nothing to me if the person with these abilities lacks teaching skills...and this is where Gary shines above most others.... When you combine "Creative Genious" with truely great teaching and writing skills you have "Studio Techniques.." by Gary Priester!!

A must have for Corel useres,
By Pat Gibson, Certified CorelDRAW instructor (p... (Austin, Texas) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Coreldraw Studio Techniques (Paperback)
CorelDRAW is the most powerful illustration package available on the market today. When I teach CorelDRAW classes I am only able to teach the tools, how to use the program. My students frequently ask where do they go from there. I used to say it was limited by their imagination, but now I can direct them to this book. Here are the techniques you can use to go from beginner to power user. If you use DRAW or PHOTOPAINT, you need this book. Thanks to Dave and Gary for filling a much needed void.

Full Color Effects - But Not For Beginners,
By A Customer
This review is from: Coreldraw Studio Techniques (Paperback)
Being already familiar with CorelDRAW and Photopaint, I found the book to be an excellent source of ideas. I cannot however recommend this book for the uninitiated. The authors assume a functional (read intimate) familiarity with the programs' tools and settings. The book presents an excellent balance between draw and paint and the authors write in light and whimisical manner, making the book a fairly easy read. What I found most useful is that it is published in full-color throughout. This makes following along with the projects much easier since there is no guessing how a particular effect should look. On the downside, the full-color also results in steep price for this 1/2" thick book. Overall, I would readily recommend it for advanced users, suggest it to intermediate users, and steer beginners to the "Visual Quickstart" or "Dummies" series.

A book that truely shows you HOW to do those special effects,
By A Customer
This review is from: Coreldraw Studio Techniques (Paperback)
I was looking for a book, not a manual, to show me some of the special effects everyone wants to learn, not just how to use the tools. I have learned so much from this book and have even impressed a few of my friends. The steps to create the projects are clear and easy to follow. The perfect book for any Corel user.

Photoshop pretties come to Corel!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Coreldraw Studio Techniques (Paperback)
Enough of converting Photoshop techniques over to PhotoPaint. Finally, the Prince & Duke have given the Corel community what the Photopaint users have had for years: A book full of easy recipes for awesome effects. This book belongs on every Corel user's bookshelf -- though it will probably spend most of its time propped open on your desk.I can't put it more clearly: If you use CorelDraw or Corel PhotoPaint, eat canned beans for a week if you have to, but GET THIS BOOK!

You get what you pay for!,

Just what I was looking for - or so I thought! I was desperate to learn more about metallic effects and how to get the best out of Corel Xara 2. Once I'd discovered how to transpose commands between Corel Draw 8 and Corel Xara then this excellent book really came into full use. An interesting side effect was that it also persuaded me to buy Corel Draw 8! But the book? Quite simply, I reckon it's a sizzler, giving away lots of secrets to us dabblers. Despite its price hike to cross the Atlantic - it cost me 35 pounds here in good old England - I can thoroughly recommend this book to you all.

An Apprenticeship:,
By A Customer
This review is from: Coreldraw Studio Techniques (Paperback)
As an amateur graphic artist, I always felt that, had I the opportunity to apprentice under a master, I could truly learn my craft. However, this was not to be and I resorted to teaching myself in the stolen moments among life's responsibilities. Fortunately for me, I recently have had the opportunity to apprentice under TWO masters, thanks to the invaluable book by David A. Huss, Gary W. Priester , CorelDRAW Studio Techniques. Many thanks to Gary and Dave for providing this unique learning opportunity for those of us who were unable to receive formal training in this field.Catharina Hogarth

An excellent melding of technical skill and artistry,
By A Customer
This review is from: Coreldraw Studio Techniques (Paperback)
I lead a CorelDraw User Group. When our first copies of this book were placed on our booktable, it sold out before our meeting even began! As a Corel certified instructor for Draw, I can recommend this book without hesitation. It is rare to find an author that possesses technical mastery of a program, fine artistic skills, *and* can make the technical aspects comprehensible. Finding two featured in one book is a bonus. Plus, they are funny... sometimes even intentionally. My only complaint, is that for the price, a companion CD would have been nice.

As always, excellent!,
By A Customer

This book is so beautiful it borders on being an art book as well as an instructional book. Gary Preister and David Huss have done an excellent job on all the different effects you can do with Corel and Corel Photopaint. Very inspiring!
