When the plates arrived, I almost expected something to be

broken but everything came in good condition.

I bought two sets for our family of 5.

I noticed right away that the designs on the

plate seemed very faded and not as bright/detailed as

the design shown on the description photo.

I was a little dissappointed but we decided to keep the sets.

The square design is very nice and I like the

thickness of the mugs. A little strange drinking

from a square shaped mug but no one seems to mind too much.

The plates are also very sturdy.

I had dropped one in the sink and it surprisingly did not break.

It's a good purchase for the price I paid ($59.49 per set)

but I wouldn't purchase these for the full price of $79.99.

well we needed new dinnerware and my wife said get corelle since her grandmother has had a set for nearly 20 years, and my mom has had her sets for over 10 years. we were buying normal stoneware prior to this and top grade stoneware at that. but the stoneware just would not hold up in any of our sets for more than around 3 years or so. after going through 3 different sets we said lets try corelle. it took us a while to decide on the design she liked that i could live with since i really dont like any of corelle's designs very much. this one was subtle yet gave her the "classy" look she was after.

then we went to local stores to check out corelle, wal-mart, and others had the reg corelle but not the ultra sets. i was very unhappy with how flimsy the regular corelle was or seemed to be in those sets so we decided we would try the ultra stuff. also my wife said she only wanted the square design so i thought ultra would be perfect for us. i was somewhat wrong.

amazon was awesome to deal with that i can say. we recieved both sets we ordered (we wanted a set for 8) in perfect condition with not a single piece out of place. so far great.... after looking them over a bit closer i noticed many of them had warped sides or sides that were not straight. when stacking them you could clearly see that a few of them did not sit flush with the other ones. this was the first big flaw that annoyed me...

the second which really got to me is a finish / design flaw in these dishes. on most of the 2 sets on the edges are what appears to be "chunks" or flakes of the material used in the making of them under the clear gloss finish. they are very noticeable and especially so if there is light hitting or shining through them. it almost appears as small cracks when you hold them up to the light but the top gloss coat is very smooth and they can not be felt.

i called and spoke with correle and the lady said this was a known thing to them and was a 100% acceptable imperfection. its very common on almost every set some sets just are not as bad as others are. i was very unhappy with that answer. so corelle sent me out replacements for the pieces that were the worst. well those got to us and were just as bad if not worse than the originals were so we simply kept out originals and sent those back...so be warned if you are a picky buyer as i am this may not settle with you when you see the flaw.

onto the design. me and my wife both love the square shape of these. the cherry blossom design could have been much nicer though. its a more washed out kinda faded design as others have mentioned here as well. it looks as if they took a small picture of a cherry blossom stem and blew it up really big and did not correct it after doing so. i mean you can see its sorta jagged on the edges and looks very pixelated in a way you can see all the tiny dots that make up the picture. its just not "smooth" in a sense. we really like the picture they used in the design but just not the way it was applied to the set. the bowls do not have any cherry blossom on them just a thin pink link around the very outer edge of them.

and the mugs are not glassware they are standard ceramic which was dissapointing.

overall they do seem sturdy as i already dropped onto my tile floor and it did not break or chip. and because of this we decided to keep them. we are not overall happy with corelle but due to the durability we think they will last a while which is waht we wanted most out of them.

hope this may help some of you just remember to look at your local store at the edges of some of the plates or bowls to see the imperfections i am referring to because if you are picky about the way a 65$ set of dishes looks which we were you may end up not keeping them.

I've had several sets of corelle over the years and my daughter picked out this set for a gift. The first plate out of the box was so poorly printed out of line that single branch tips were double branch tips. In looking over the dishes the picture quality was very coarse and looked and felt like a decal. We didn't even open the second box because we knew we were sending it back.

I saw this pattern online at Corelle and scoured stores and websites looking for it. After reading the reviews on Amazon, I decided to purchase it, being forwarned about the 'faded' look, and possible breakage, but knowing Amazon's reputation I felt reassured in purchasing sight unseen. It came in perfect condition, fast shipping. The pattern is understated, very zen and non-threatening for my flower-phobic husband. I adore the set but felt it was too much for an 8 pc setting, so I purchased Corelle Square Round Pure White 16-Piece Dinnerware Set, Service for 4 to complement it. Perfect!

I'm sure these dishes are durable and practical, as are all corelle dishes-- the problem is the quality of the decoration. It looks INCREDIBLY cheap and tacky in person. The online image does not accurately reflect the look of the real product. By the way, I sent these back a long time ago and have yet to see my card be credited for the return.

I bought this set after reading both the pro and con reviews, and after having bought another Corelle set that was a disaster. Here is a summary of my impressions after having just received the set:

1. Some people complained that the Cherry Blossom image was too faint. It is true that it is not as dramatic as what you see in the photos, but it seems to be completely appropriate for a set of dishes. By no means would I call it "faint."

2. In terms of the quality of the Cherry Blossom image, it was fine on the set that I recevied. Consistent from dish to dish and the printing was well-aligned. Perhaps they had a quality control issue in the past, but it was fixed when I received my set.

3. I was surprised -- and am concerned -- that the flower image appears to be printed on TOP of the final finish of the plate. You can actually feel the rough texture of the printing. I wonder if the printing will wear off after much use? The description says no, but I'm not convinced.

4. The dishes are definitely heavier than the Corelle with which I am familiar. This set is part of the "Ultra" line, which is their premium line. Some people said that you would hardly notice the difference, but I definitely do. You may or may not like that. Personally, I think I like the lighter (and thinner) material, rather than what you get with this set. But, once again, I think that is personal preference.

5. As others have pointed out, the cups are definitely NOT the standard light, Corelle material. If you care about that, don't order this set. The cups are called "porcelain" in the description, so watch out for that if you consider another set.

6. Even though the cups are porcelain instead of the standard Corelle material, I feel that the white color and the color of the flower image match the rest of the dishes just fine. It is not a perfect match, but is close enough in my opinion. Looks good. If you don't like it, maybe just buy some plain white cups to go with the set.

7. The sides of the plates do have more of a slope to them that the standard round plates with which I am familiar. I don't know that I care about that ....yet. You can see the area that is sloped in the photos.

8. The set was well packaged and came without any breakage. Very compact. That is what I like about Corelle. As others have said, they don't take up much room in the cabinet, because they stack nicely and are thin.

9. Overall, I am satisfied with this set of dishes so far. If I had it to do over, I might have looked for a set that is the thinner, lighter material, but these are actually more presentable than the thinner stuff for more "formal" dinners. And I have absolutely no faith that the cups are going to hold up with time, since they are not the traditional Corelle material. Personally, the cups are less important to me than the plates, so I don't care if I have to replace them with something different, later. I don't like having things be too "matchy-matchy" anyway.

10. A word of warning if you are looking at other Corelle dishes. Do NOT buy the dishes that have "Stoneware" in the description, if you want real Corelle. They are heavy and not the same material that we have come to recognize as Corelle over the past decades. If you want HEAVY dishes, you can consider the Stoneware style, but I would really encourage you to examine them in a retail store FIRST. The set that I ordered when I was poorly informed, showed up with lots of broken plates. Then when I read the reviews, lots of people said that the dishes were breaking after about a year. That having been said, Amazon gave me a full refund and paid the return shipping. Crappy packaging and crappy quality, but Amazon made it right.

This is a beautiful and elegant pattern. I only wish Corelle had better quality control. Both luncheon and dinner plates were badly misprinted; the various layers of printing were out of alignment, resulting in an extremely blurry, unusably defective double image. I sent mine back for return instead of replacement because I don't have any confidence that the next batch would be any different. I've been using Corelle for 30 years now, and while the designs are getting much, much better, the quality control has really dropped.

As to the extra thickness of the Corelle "Ultra" dinnerware (which this pattern is), yes it is thicker, but the difference is not that noticeable compared with other square patterns. The square design is definitely interesting, and a nice change.

I recently bought these dishes for my mother for an anniversary present (It was what she wanted...). We have had corelle my entire life, HOWEVER, these are by far better quality than any other corelle dishes we have ever had. They are thicker, heavier. The design is delicate and beautiful. I have no doubt that these will last as long, if not longer, than any other set we have ever owned.

Beautiful, tough and long-lasting; what else can a family ask for?

These dishes are perfect. I love the square design. Have had 2 other sets of Corelle over the last 35 years. Would never have anything else.

I ordered these plates, and when they came the pattern is nowhere near as clear and pretty as it is in the photos. It looks like it was printed on an inkjet printer that was almost out of ink. There are faded lines, and places where the color is almost all gone. I was very, VERY disappointed.
