Because there's no need for this spoon rest to go in the oven or microwave, it's made of melamine, a durable, lightweight plastic that is virtually unbreakable and won't melt on a warm stove. A hole in the end allows the rest to be hung on the wall for decoration.
Abundance, like most Corelle tableware, is made of laminated layers of glass, creating thin yet surprisingly durable plates, bowls, and other pieces that stack very compactly. Corelle Coordinates Abundance Melamine Spoon Rest Looks great on the stove or hanging on the wall. I got three in different patterns. Fits everything from a tea spoon to a wooden spoon. The durable melamine is not likely to break if it drops on the floor. Ceramics and even Corelle are subject to breakage if dropped. Lightweight and lovely to look at. Keep it away from open flame and hot range elements. Unlike ceramics and Corelle, it is subject to discoloration and even melting under high heat conditions. An inexpensive accent for a functional kitchen.

I was expecting it to be like the plates, it is cheap plastic. I just someting else to use instead.
