5.0 out of 5 stars My first Corelle set has lasted 13 years!
And it is still going strong! We have loved our Corelle ever since we first got it. It is so lightweight, and takes up much less room in the cupboard than most other dishes. It is ridiculously strong and SO sturdy! We have only broken a couple of pieces in the 13 yrs we have owned it. (It has survived 3 rambunctious kids!) We use it in the microwave, and sometimes...

3.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as the old ones
We used Corelle Country Gardens with our large family for years. It took a lot of heavy use and we loved it. We remodeled the kitchen and bought our new Calloway corelle. It's been a month and one of the saucers is chipped so badly at the edge that we had to toss it. We returned the salt and pepper shakers because the holes were so huge that you could dump teaspoons...

5.0 out of 5 stars Love these dishes!, April 11, 2006

This review is from: Corelle Impressions 20-Piece Dinnerware Set, Service for 4, Callaway (Kitchen)
I bought three of the 20-piece sets during the 10% off sale combined with the $25 housewares coupon. They were shipped fedex and arrived safely without breakage. The additional shipping fee was only $3 per set which is much better than the $10 to $15 other sites are charging.

Corelle's not only tough, it's also light, which makes it great for buffets and barbecues. I have an elderly arthritic relative who uses it specifically for that reason. They're very comfortable to hold if you're snacking in front of the TV or picnic-ing outdoors. These dishes are great in a home with small children, or in a college apartment with rowdy roommates.

The Callaway pattern caught my eye because it's pretty, it's not tacky, but neither is it boring. Some of Corelle's other patterns are downright hideous but this is elegant for casual dinnerware. It's also one of Corelle's best selling patterns which is great for several reasons. 1) It won't be discontinued anytime soon so the three year warranty will hold up. Other Corelle patterns suddenly disappear without warning. 2) Because it's one of the top sellers there's lots of open stock that you can buy either online (google, or try an auction site), or directly from the company by calling their customer service number, or in Corning outlets around the country. If you do manage to break a piece you can replace it quickly and easily. I picked up a dozen each of the 9" luncheon plates (not included in this set), as well as 20 ounce flat pasta/salad bowls. I eventually plan to buy some serving dishes as well as the gravy boat and casserole dishes. There are also melamine trays, teapots, salt and pepper shakers, glasses, lasagna pans, etc.. available in this pattern.

PROS: durable, lightweight, beautiful pattern
CONS: "smaller plate" is only slightly bigger than the mug holder

This set is absolutely beautiful. I wish there were more patterns/colors on the bowls, but they are still nice. I love the scalloped perimeters, but they do not make this dinnerware thicker. Just an FYI if you expect thick dinnerware... this is not since it is Vitrelle and does not need to be thick to be durable. I got this set to replace a brand new stoneware set that I just bought, which replaced a much older Corelle set. I wish I didn't bother with the stoneware since it was very heavy, chipped, and scratched all in the 3 weeks I had it. But, live and learn and re-buy Corelle!! The old Corelle set I replaced was 20 years old and still in great shape. The only reason I bought new was I remodeled my kitchen and wanted to match my dinnerware. This new set does the trick, and is elegant with the scalloping. I love the warranty, the lightweight feel, and the fact that I don't have to walk on tiptoes in socks to keep this set from chipping and looking great. I wish the smaller plate was just a tad bigger since it is not much bigger than the mug holders. But, Amazon gives you the diameter, so I knew this before I bought it. I love the size of everything else. The ivy pattern is a softer, lighter green with blue and yellow lines interlacing the pattern. The outer edge stripe is a forest green. BEAUTIFUL! I bought 3 boxes to get service for 12. They came packed nice with no problems shipping. I wish they were a little less expensive (I paid $42.80 plus $4.95 per service of 4), but I can't complain since they will last a lifetime! In fact, I was able to sell my old Corelle set since it was still in such great shape to offset some of the cost of this new set!! I will update this post if I have any problems as honesty always makes a review more helpful!

It's been a month and one of the saucers is chipped so badly at the edge that we had to toss it. Lastly, the cups all used to be porcelin---imagine our disappointment to find these are pottery.

4.0 out of 5 stars Helpful for families short on cabinet space, September 9, 2008
By
Mom of Six (Arizona United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Corelle Impressions 20-Piece Dinnerware Set, Service for 4, Callaway (Kitchen)
I ordered two sets of these for our family of 8, in hopes of saving space in our kitchen cabinet. I am mostly happy with this set, and plan to get more. I think another reviewer mentioned that the green looks darker on the computer image than in person, and I find that to be true. In real life, the pattern looks more delicate, not as bold, but it does look good.

My set was packed well enough to arrive in good condition.

I purchased this set with teacups in hopes that the cups would be made from the layered glass that are used for the plates. Unfortunately, they are made of stoneware, and two or more or the eight have chipped after only about a month. My older children, our 5, 7, 10 & 12 y.o. help with the dishes, but are not rough with them. The first cup that chipped toppled off the cabinet shelf accidentally when my 7 year old was removing some to set the table. I don't know how the next one chipped, but based on our short time with the teacups, I don't expect them to last as long as the plates & saucers. The chips are minor, however, and do not prevent us from using the cups. They just don't look new anymore, which is unacceptable so soon after purchase. This is very disappointing to me, as I've seen this line, Corelle, advertised as good to use with children.

A stack of 8 of the dinner plates is light and small enough for any of my table-setting aged children to carry easily to the table all at once.

By the way, I HATE PLASTIC, how it looks, feels, and falls over easily, so I will continue to search for space-saving, kid-friendly cups & glasses. Come to think of it, I have some 16 ounce, thick, Anchor-Hocking water glasses, a set of 4, that have lasted over 13 years now with not a chip or crack. All are still in use, and look like new. Maybe I need some more of those...

Overall, these plates look good, and are improving my limited space problems nicely. I plan to buy more.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love it!, June 15, 2008

I've had my set for almost 8 years now and the only pieces that have broken are the glasses which I'm not even sure are actually made by Corelle. This set has survived 4 moves, a lot of guests, and my toddler who puts dishes in the sink roughly when I turn my back. Other than the broken glasses, my set doesn't have even the smallest chip!

5.0 out of 5 stars Very durable!, December 14, 2007

I admit I have dropped them, nicked them on the counter, and scrubbed them where the enamel should have come off of them and they have so far survived unbroken, chip free, and still look terrific! I've had my set for about 5 years now and I still love them. My mother even wants to replace here worn out dishes with a set, so guess what she's getting for Christmas. I also love that there are soo many different coordinating pieces. I just ordered the baking dish and casserole sets too for myself. Can't wait :) One thing I do hope is still the same, mine are stamped made in the USA. Always a benefit! I did read however that a buyer of the gravy boat said China...
OOoo! and if your mother is a fan of white stuff like mine is, it coordinates well with the CorningWare French White collections too!

5.0 out of 5 stars Spring Shades of Green, June 26, 2007

This review is from: Corelle Impressions 20-Piece Dinnerware Set, Service for 4, Callaway (Kitchen)
We've been big Corelle fans for decades, having enjoyed many patterns over the years and I still like to have a few colors/patterns to choose from at once. This Callaway pattern, from dark forest green edges to shades of soft grass green in the ivy, feels a little English and/or Irish and the slight scalloping gives the pieces a more delicate porcelain china feel to them. I need to hunt down matching luncheon plates now! (I wish they had come in the sets!) We can be pretty rough on dishes on a daily basis... always in a hurry to get them onto and then off of the table and into the dishwasher and then put away into the cupboard. Each piece lasts a very long time and I am more likely to give pieces or sets away when I want to make room for new patterns than to have to replace anything that has broken. Corelle rarely breaks, although, when it gets old, it does start to chip a little around the outside edges. I have never tried any stoneware or china that can take the abuse that Corelle can. Corelle is our daily ware.

Everyday durability yet very attractive and dainty to also be used as formal dinnerware. Because it is so lightweight, it also takes up less space in the cupboard compared to my stoneware.
