Great introduction, or a cheap way to replace pieces, December 31, 2003
This review is from: Corelle Livingware Winter Frost White 16-Piece Dinnerware Set, Service for 4 (Kitchen)
Here is the product that started it all. Created originally as an alternative to Melmac, way back in the Nixon administration, it has captured the imagination of America, especially when it was found that one could microwave food on it.
Its siblings, in Butterfly Gold, Spring Green, Snowflake Blue, Old Town Blue, et al, alas, are not longer available. But this set 100% compatible, so it makes for a quick way to restock broken pieces (no, NOTHING is 100% indestructible) at half the price of replacing pieces one (or four) at a time.
No, it doesn't have the stackable (and microwaveable) cup and saucers. It doesn't even have the ceramic (non-microwaveable but matching) mugs. But basic white cups and saucers are available anywhere. This has the basic pieces (minus the dessert bowl) that you probably want, plus some tumblers thrown in for good luck. But be careful, because the tumblers are clear, so they are not really Corelle, and they shouldn't be thrown far...
Enjoy.

Suprise for a skeptic, December 2, 2005
This review is from: Corelle Livingware Winter Frost White 16-Piece Dinnerware Set, Service for 4 (Kitchen)
I was actually fairly skeptical about my purchase of two of these sets to make a service for eight originally, as I generally enjoy the firm heft of stoneware and the feeling that the plate is not only substantial enough to carry my food around on but to last over the years.
But I have been pleasantly surprised by this item and am now, officially, a convert. While I originally missed the heft of stoneware, I've found that it is actually rather nice to be able to carry even a fully laden plate one handed. Even more so, the styling is simply beautiful. I cook a decent amount and often have guests, and these dishes seem to have some magical way of making my food look brilliant. If you want Better Homes and Gardens, get yourself some nice patterned stoneware plates...but if you want something that screams This Is Gourmet Food, these plates are the best.
On a side note, they are also amazingly easy to clean; I am a handwasher just in general, and these things are a pleasure to rinse over, as they resist stains even from tomatoes and other potent fruits and vegis. Very pleased with the lasting luster.

Great for Life, July 19, 2005
This review is from: Corelle Livingware Winter Frost White 16-Piece Dinnerware Set, Service for 4 (Kitchen)
I got a set of these 30 years ago and, like all of the others said, it's still going strong. I have since added to them and use them every year for my Thanksgiving dinners for 18+. You just can't beat classic white. They are minimalist beauties. They are classic. They are made to be break resistant... will hardly ever break on linoleum or when dropped in the sink. I love them. I've had other dishes since I got these but I always return to the Corelles because they are the ultimate classic (and cheap!), hands down.
