Great introduction, or a cheap way to replace pieces,
By
This review is from: Corelle Livingware Winter Frost White 16-Piece Dinnerware Set, Service for 4 (Kitchen)
Here is the product that started it all. Created originally as an alternative to Melmac, way back in the Nixon administration, it has captured the imagination of America, especially when it was found that one could microwave food on it.
Its siblings, in Butterfly Gold, Spring Green, Snowflake Blue, Old Town Blue, et al, alas, are not longer available. But this set 100% compatible, so it makes for a quick way to restock broken pieces (no, NOTHING is 100% indestructible) at half the price of replacing pieces one (or four) at a time. No, it doesn't have the stackable (and microwaveable) cup and saucers. It doesn't even have the ceramic (non-microwaveable but matching) mugs. But basic white cups and saucers are available anywhere. This has the basic pieces (minus the dessert bowl) that you probably want, plus some tumblers thrown in for good luck. But be careful, because the tumblers are clear, so they are not really Corelle, and they shouldn't be thrown far... Enjoy.

Suprise for a skeptic,

This review is from: Corelle Livingware Winter Frost White 16-Piece Dinnerware Set, Service for 4 (Kitchen)
I was actually fairly skeptical about my purchase of two of these sets to make a service for eight originally, as I generally enjoy the firm heft of stoneware and the feeling that the plate is not only substantial enough to carry my food around on but to last over the years.
But I have been pleasantly surprised by this item and am now, officially, a convert. While I originally missed the heft of stoneware, I've found that it is actually rather nice to be able to carry even a fully laden plate one handed. Even more so, the styling is simply beautiful. I cook a decent amount and often have guests, and these dishes seem to have some magical way of making my food look brilliant. If you want Better Homes and Gardens, get yourself some nice patterned stoneware plates...but if you want something that screams This Is Gourmet Food, these plates are the best. On a side note, they are also amazingly easy to clean; I am a handwasher just in general, and these things are a pleasure to rinse over, as they resist stains even from tomatoes and other potent fruits and vegis. Very pleased with the lasting luster.

Great for Life,

I got a set of these 30 years ago and, like all of the others said, it's still going strong. I have since added to them and use them every year for my Thanksgiving dinners for 18+. You just can't beat classic white. They are minimalist beauties. They are classic. They are made to be break resistant... will hardly ever break on linoleum or when dropped in the sink. I love them. I've had other dishes since I got these but I always return to the Corelles because they are the ultimate classic (and cheap!), hands down.

great product,
This review is from: Corelle Livingware Winter Frost White 16-Piece Dinnerware Set, Service for 4 (Kitchen)
My wife and I have had this table ware for 18 years and out of place setttings for 12 we have only broken 5 plates and 2 bowls. This product can last a lifetime. We recently ordered two, four place settings from Amazon. Unfortuately, one set was smashed in shipping. But, as great customer service, Amazon sent us another set overnight. Yet, it too was smashed into shards of glass. Amazon will no longer ship Corelle products to us. Corelle Dinnerware is a fantastic product. I would suggest not trying to buy anything fragile from Amazon because it will definetly not last the delivery.

Corelle 1049550 Winter Frost White 16-Piece Set,
This review is from: Corelle Livingware Winter Frost White 16-Piece Dinnerware Set, Service for 4 (Kitchen)
These plates are quite nice. They are light weight compared to standard dinnerware and a bit smaller in diameter so are well suited to apartment living. They take up very little cabinet space, are dishwasher safe and resistant to scratching. The color is a brilliant white which works well with our minimalist approach to home design. We have used these Corelle plates for over a month now and are well satisfied with them for everday use. The bowls hold one cup and are a nice design but the salad plates are a bit small for a salad although they do fine for something like serving sliced tomatoes. Even the glasses are a pleasing design! I would highly recommend these to any young people starting out and needing dinnerware for a small apartment.

I've had Corelle in my home as well as other dishware. I keep coming back to Corelle because the product stands time so very well. I love that even someone who is fumblefingered like me can drop a dish and not be concerned about breakage or scarring. It's wonderful to have dishware that goes so easily from use to the dishwasher and comes out sparkling as is if it's new. This Corelle product impresses me in that the winter white is still winter white in spite of a lot of use and the dishes have kept their shine.
The Corelle 1049550 Winter Frost White 16-Piece Livingware Set is ideal for storage in a small are in that the shapes are perfect for nestling together. The large plates are adequate size for a meal; the small plates are perfect for snacks and desserts; the bowls encourage accurate serving sizes without scrimping; the drinking glasses are also of very high quality and show no signs of scratches.

Nothing beats the functionality of Corelle. My last set of Corelle was already a hand-me-down, which I then used for almost twenty years. After all that time, one plate had a chip in it and the rest looked brand new! When I moved to a new home with a different decor, there was no question that the new dishes would be Corelle.
This "Winter Frost" set is all about simple, understated elegance, and there are great matching pieces available as well. The newer Corelle has lost none of the durability that has been Corelle's trademark for so many years. Lightweight and attractive, these dishes go from microwave to table to dishwasher over and over without ever showing their wear. Also, I was happy to find a set that comes with glasses instead of mugs. I don't need any more mugs, but I can always use glasses. These dishes are attractive, durable, and functional, and nothing beats the value for the price. Corelle has managed to stay affordable without losing quality. If you have loved Corelle in the past, you will love the newer sets as well. This set would also serve as a great introduction to this versatile dishware. At first, I had a hard time convincing my husband he would like eating from a "plain" white plate, but he was soon asking to order more of the matching bowls. [Update: The glasses have turned out to be quite sturdy. However, receiving them unbroken seems to be a hit or miss situation. The first two sets of this Winter Frost collection were packed with care, surrounded by bubble wrap, and arrived in perfect condition. I decided to order a third set, which arrived with no protective wrapping at all, and the glasses were smashed. Amazon promptly sent a replacement, which was also lacking any protective wrapping and the glasses once again were smashed. All the dishes were fine.]

A good, basic dinnerware set,

The Corelle Winter Frost White 16 piece set is a good basic dinnerware set. Durablility is the best feature of any Corelle pattern. The dinner plate and soup/cereal bowl are perfectly sized. The second plate in the set is a bread and butter plate, too small for salads but appropriate for desserts. The glasses that come with the set are not sturdy, but do look nice with the place setting. The all-white pattern makes it easy to accessorize--just change the linens and you have a totally new look.

I ordered 4 sets and all 4 sets were delivered with nothing broken!!! Not even a glass!!! I believe and feel I got a great deal with the pricing, and I know Corelle is a set of dishes that will last throughout the year. I have one other set that I use for more formal dinners, and I have had these for over 15 years! The white is a perfect addition and I have gained so much more room in my cupboard than what I had with my stoneware dishes! Nothing can beat the Corelle in my eyes.

There isn't much that I can add as these are most basic, yet very durable.
I ordered 3 sets, for which all were sent in 1 Amazon box. I was shocked to find that only one glass broke in shipment to Alaska! Perhaps due to the box weighing more, with a warning label regarding lifting, made it inconvenient for a handler to attempt to "toss" it about. I have watched the USPS transfer mail from the airlines and seeing how mail is handled, was appalled. I spoke to a postal carrier about this and at the time (and probably true to this day) they said that mail isn't organized. Meaning, fragile items do not have their own marked bag. If they can toss it, it's what they seem to do. Back to the dishes: I was surprised to see the compact boxes they came in. Each set, contained inside a box measuring: 10 5/8 x 10 5/8 x 5 3/4 deep. These stack nicely, taking up little room compared to my old dishes. I never thought I would turn to Corelle for dishes but having 4 children and many broke dishes throughout the course of years, decided it was time to move to something that will last. I'm glad I made the choice and wish I made it much sooner. That said, I was disappointed in the size of the small plates. It would have been nice, if they were a little larger. You may want to measure your old and compare the size to these ones, just so you will not be in for a small let-down. The glasses measure 5 7/8 tall and 2 3/4 wide. They are thin and expect that they will eventually break, one by one. That said, I did not purchase the set for the glasses. |
