We have some very nice stoneware bowls, but they're lousy for so many things. Can't sip soup from them because they have an extended rim. Don't stack easily in the dishwasher. And a couple of them have chipped.

We wanted some bowls that were the right size for a small bowl of ice cream, or some soup, or a small salad, or some chips or sliced fruit -- and these are just about perfect. They look nice, but I think they'd also go well in homes with small kids, being relatively unbreakable. (Well, difficult to break anyway.)

The only downside was we ordered eight of them... and these are not large bowls. They could have been stacked together and sent in a small UPS box. Instead, they arrived in via the post office and in a HUGE box, stuffed with bubble pockets and -wrap. I won't take away a star from the bowls themselves, but I do with they'd exercised a little more sense when shipping them.
