God's own muse!, September 5, 2004
This review is from: Cores Nomes (Audio CD)
Cores Nomes reveals Caetano at his bittersweet best. He is poet, songwriter, singer and mime. Check out his substitution of "Djavaniar" for the original "Caetaniar" on Sina. These guys are so cool on so many levels...This is the world's most sophisticated and timeless pop music. Caetano is easily the equal of Duke Ellington, Miles Davis, John Coltrane and any other creative genius of the late 20th - early 21st century. Revel in the beauty of Caetano's art!

One of Caetano's finest, indeed one of MPB's finest albums., June 29, 1998

Only slightly experimental and rather commercial by Caetano's standard, the lyrics are fascinating and engrossing, while the arrangements are simple and lovely. Every track is enchanting, and my personal favorites are Cavaleiro de Jorge and the cover of Djavan's Sina. The Africaness of Caetano's Bahia is evident, as are reggae influences. Buy this and Cinema Transendental FIRST if you're new to Caetano.

I love him, May 2, 2004
This review is from: Cores Nomes (Audio CD)
An album of pure, crystalline beauty. Very peaceful, though there are some up-tempo tracks like Ele Me Deu Um Beijo Na Boca (a very curious one with interesting lyrics) and Sina, with a reggae flavour. But what I liked best are the slow romantic songs. Queixa, Coqueiro de Itapoa, Sete Mil Vezes, Sonhos - all of them have their very special depth of sentiment, very unique charm... but the best one is definitely Trem das Cores. A very sexy song, Caetano's voice is tenderness itself. And what I especially like about the song is that it contains a very subtle tribute to Vinicius Cantuaria ("...lua e estrela, anel de turquesa...") This disk (Cores Nomes means "Colours Names") has all the colours of a palm beach, of a meadow covered with flowers, of a starry night... This is the Caetano I know and love.
