2.0 out of 5 stars No Joshua Bell
I have heard Corey Cerovsek in performance twice, and I have this CD. His intonation is faulty, his tone is mediocre, and his playing does not have the same spirit or passion that Joshua Bell's has. He is not in the same class as the other violinists of today-Joshua Bell, Anne-Sophie Mutter, Midori, Maxim Vengerov, Lara St.John, Hilary Hahn, ect.

Rarely does a violinist come along with a style so clearly descendant from the days of Wieniawski himself. This CD showcases one who does in a truly refreshing and enjoyable set of performances of the works of the masterful virtuoso. Cerovsek's playing is stunning, original, and a welcome change from the now standardized interpretations of these popular pieces. For any music lover interested in hearing a violinist whose talent far surpasses that of his contemporaries, this CD would be a terrific addition to your collection. The drawback to recordings these days is the element of predictablility, but in Cerovsek's playing one has the opportunity to hear a brilliant rendering filled with all the spontaneity of a live performance. Well worth the purchase - especially for the inclusion of the seldom-heard Faust, which is absolutely beautiful.

5.0 out of 5 stars Correct, no Joshua Bell here!, October 8, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Corey (Audio CD)
You are correct; this is no Joshua Bell. To compare Corey with any other violinist would be a true shame. Corey is not merely a violinist, he is a musician. His flawless ear for musical mastery brings Weniawski closer to the public than ever before. This CD is well worth having. I personally own two: one for the house, and one for the car. Corey and Katja blend together perfectly as always. If you do not have the pleasure of hearing Corey Cerovsek live, you should definitely own this CD. It would be a pity if even one person in this world missed out on hearing him play. He has flawless technique, graceful musicality, and unmatched tone. You will finish listening and will be a fan of not only Corey's but of Weniawski's as well. Happy listening!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant and soulful renditions of violin masterpieces, November 15, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Corey (Audio CD)
Since I live in Bloomington,Indiana and was priviledged to watch Corey and Katia Cerovsek grow up, I suppose I could be prejudiced. Corey studied with the renowned pedagogue Josef Gingold as did another young and upcoming violinist Joshua Bell. The Wieniawski pieces are well known to attendees of the Indiana University School of Music recitals. Mr. Cervosek's renditions of these pieces for the violin rank among the best that I have heard. I would recommend them to anyone who wishes to be enthralled by a young violinist who will surely become one of the greats of the future.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome, February 15, 2005
This review is from: Corey (Audio CD)
I have seen and heard corey live in concert. He is wonderful!!
Sometimes you buy the cd's to replay what you heard in concert and it does not live up to the memory. Corey's music however, that is not the case. It is the best in person but the cd brings you back and it is extremely enjoyable. I own two copies myself, that way I have one for the car and one for the house. I'm sure I will be buying more in the future for gifts and a back up for when my children misplace my Cds.
I definitely recommend the cd to any and all.
A MUST for a classical music collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Corey and Katja in concert!, February 4, 2000
This review is from: Corey (Audio CD)
I have experienced Corey and Katja in concert several times, and each time I am taken under their spell. These two siblings are such talented artists, and communicate incredibly without speaking, which makes any music the create together flow like magic. I would strongly support the urge to buy this CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars Most natural and frank music I have ever heard, July 31, 2006
This review is from: Corey (Audio CD)
I think Mr. cerovsek is one of the greatest musical talents in this century. His interpretation of music is so natural and true that whenever I listen to this recording I fall in love with the music and feel what the composer has felt without difficulty.
Afterhearing corey cerovsek you will not be able to bear the interpretations of many other famous violinists ,like Anne Sophie Mutter , who just want to seem suffisticated and eventualy ruin the depth of the music with their unintelligent approach and show off.
Music of corey cerovsek makes you fall in love with the simple life and with the true being of a pure and honest human soul.

5.0 out of 5 stars C C Delivers, April 16, 2003

This review is from: Corey (Audio CD)
I have listened to Corey Cerovsek play the violin since he was fourteen years old. Like any great musician, he is to be heard live if at all possible. You won't be disappointed. This recording captures his spirit, finesse and musicality. Delightfully nimble in the most rapid passages, he turns on a dime to allow feelings full expression. He somehow manages to serve the music and the composer while living out his individuality as an artist, as only the very few can.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exquisite mastery of the instrument!, March 31, 2000

Cerovsek does a phenomenal job executing the technical difficulty of these pieces of Wieniawski while bringing out emotions that few others can do with these selections. This is a wonderful recording, and I highly recommend it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Purchased after many borrowings, January 10, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Corey (Audio CD)
I had borrowed this cd many times over the last several years from my local library. It went missing in action for the last six months, so I ordered a copy for myself. This is the kind of music, like good jazz music, that one can listen to many times and not get tired of hearing. Corey Cerovsek, on violin, with Katja Cerovsek, on piano, play a very fine program of the music of Wieniawski, who by my reckoning is a composer of violin music who justly deserves this exposure. The music is in turns sweet and flowing as well as upbeat and almost finger snappy. I give the disc a very high recommendation for lovers of classical music and violin virtuosity in particular.

Most of these short compositions by Wieniawski, I have heard used as encores by some of the great violinist of the world. However, Corey Cerobsek plays them most impressively. He displays a "Jaw dropping" technique plus a very beautiful tone (helped I'm sure by the violin he used which was once owned by Wieniawski himself! It truly has a most beautiful tone.) This is a most impressive recital for violin and piano of works such as the "Scherzo-Tarantella" Op, 16, "Polonaise" No. 1 in D major, "Fantasie brillante" on a theme from Gounod's Faust, "Caprice" in A minor, etc. Throughout the recital, Corey is simply fantastic--I cannot emphasize enough that his tone is beautiful NEVER turning harsh. He is accompanied unobtrusively by his sister Katia Cerobsek on piano. You do soon forget that she is there--Corey is the show--he puts on a jolly good one too.

If you want to hear some beautiful violin playing that will dazzle you, buy this disc. The sound is great too--rich and warm!
