What we have here is really a bit of a quandary. Some may consider this a large figure, some a simple base on which to rest their Nintendo [3]DS. I however consider this small masterpiece to be one of the finest looking representations of Mario ever!

Although there are more than a few (hundred) versions of Mario in figure form available at almost any retailer, online and off, I feel the sculpt of this particular "figure" to be the most accurate representation of our favorite Italian plumber, standing an awesome 12 inches tall! If you have played any of the most recent Super Mario Bros. titles including New Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Galaxy 1 & 2, and New Super Mario Bros. Wii, among others, then you will have a pretty good idea of what to expect when you see this awesome piece of art for the first time. There is a bit of confusion as to who deserves the credit for this figure. There are two versions of Mario being sold, one of them by a company named POPco and the other by the much-better-known First 4 Figures - (the company responsible for the gorgeous Samus Aran and Link statues.) The only real difference between the two figures is the base on which he stands. The POPco version has a large yellow star painted on the circular base whereas the F4F version is a solid black. (I have not seen ANY version sporting the green base pictured here on Amazon. A prototype picture maybe?) Either one you end up with will be simply fantastic!

Paint applications on this figure are nothing short of amazing. There is not one little speck of slop anywhere to be found on Mario. He has sharp, clean lines and spectacular detailing on the eyes, hair, and mouth. His overall buttons are a bright, solid yellow and the 'M' logo on his hat is clean and even.

As for the articulation Mario has very little. This should come as no surprise though, considering he is sold as a DS HOLDER. The only part of this Mario that is articulated is his head. He can turn his head right and left, and that is it.

The packaging that Mario arrives in is an open-in-the-front display style box. He is held in very snugly and displays great in or out of the box. On the sides of the box are graphics featuring a 3D rendered Mario and on the back we see an actual photo of the figure holding a Nintendo DS. Another cool thing about the packaging is the phony NDS unit Mario is holding on to. It is made of sturdy card stock and surprisingly has intricate detail - it even opens up to show the two screens and buttons! The purpose for this, of course, is to see what your new 12 inch Mario figure will look like when he is holding YOUR NDS.

Overall I would highly recommend this piece of gaming paraphernalia to any Mario fan wholeheartedly! But if you are just a casual gamer who enjoys the occasional large-scale-figure to spruce up your gaming room, then this is also for you. Big figures like this one featuring as much detail as this one does usually sell for astronomical amounts, yet this one is incredibly cheap in comparison to similar gaming memorabilia. Go ahead, pick one up. You will not be disappointed with this 12" Mario figure in your collection, he truly is worth every penny!

My 10 year old daughter is crazy about Mario. This was on the top of her Christmas list. It was shipped out quickly and arrived well packed. She was thrilled. It is next to her bed faithfully holding her ds lite.

Great size and it doesn't just hold a DS,...mine is holding my PS3 controller. Matter of fact if an item is the size of the DS, you can place about anything into Mario's hands. If you're a Mario fan, don't pass up on this! Great value also!

I was on the wait list to get this at amazon and noticed that almost everywhere that does offer these dolls they have wait lists. well after about a month of watching i found one and just decided to pay extra somewhere else just so i could get one for my son. well i got one and the store i bought it from can't get anymore now so they too no longer sell them. but my oh my if you have a chance and a mario lover at home this is by far the best thing out there. it is huge and substantial and made with quality in mind and all for less than $[...]. do not miss your chance on this one i have a feeling they will be gone everywhere soon

This was part of my son's birthday party. I used it as a centerpiece and temporarily attached a small plate to Mario's hands and set a birthday cupcake on top. My son though it was very cool and has it in his bedroom which is decorated in a Mario theme. No real play value but he loves it!
