First, this is not worth $50 at all.

The toy does not look like the picture--it is painted a light gray with very dark gray squares (aztec-ing) all over it. There is too much contrast between the two colors, making it look like a mottled mess.

The picture shows the ship as it should actually be--light blue with a SLIGHTLY darker shade of aztec-ing.

Other than the paint scheme, the model is made of heavy plastic, and is quite nicely detailed. It's a shame they picked the color scheme they did; if the colors were correct this would be beautiful.

The problem here lies within the construction of this item. Corgi used to make high Quality vehicles in the past, but now, everything of Corgi is made in China - therefore the quality suffers. When I received this replica starship, I was quite impressed, at first. I thought the detail was quite good. However, that quickly changed when I actually removed the item from the box and held it. It was 90% plastic, not die cast metal at all. In fact, there is only one small section of this entire item that is diecast.

When I confronted Corgi about this obvious poor choice of construction material, they said that it was the only way they could produce this item with as much detail as it has, and that if they did it in die cast, it would be far too costly to produce and market. If you ask me, all they did was simply say that their company got lazy, sold themselves out to a different company in order to cut corners and save money. This is NOT the Corgi quality I remember 30+ years ago as a kid, and certainly not worth the price tag. Shame on you Corgi.

3.0 out of 5 stars Enterprise-D, April 13, 2008

As mentioned before this is a very good attempt to model this famous Galaxy Class Starship. However, there are four inaccuracies in the model. 1. The main impulse engine is not painted red. 2. The saucer impulse engine is painted red, when it should be black (never in the TNG series was these engines on, when the ship was connected, only later Galaxy Class ships on the DS9 series had these engines been red). 3. The name, "Enterprise" is not labeled on the sides of the foreword torpedoes tubes. Finally, the worst of them all is that the paint scheme is wrong. The ship should be primarily duck egg blue, and have light gray azteced over it. All in all, it a great attempt to model after the famous TNG ship, however, if these inaccuracies where corrected this model would be desktop worthy.

3.0 out of 5 stars Standerd Enterprise D, October 17, 2007

Ok, first up I will tell you is the con(s) always, lets start.

First con, the color is, well reversed or what it needs to be, instead of greyish aztic patterns you get white, and instead of a whitish hull you get dark grey, its not totally die cast (which I already thought so at purchase, total die cast items would be more like $90 and up) the die cast is limited to its secondery hull, and its proportion is off, but the ONLY Enterprise D that I have seen that had right proportion was the PlayMates Enterprise D, whoever, it is not ugly to look at, the detail is good, the balance is good (a all die cast one would have balance issues with the stand) remember, this is NOT a toy, its to look at, nothing speacle here so its rating would be a 3, maybe a 2 due to color.

3.0 out of 5 stars An Okay Attempt, April 17, 2008

I too will agree with the previous reviewers and say that the color scheme is not terribly accurate, and that some shapes and proportions are off ( This was also true of the Corgi NCC-1701 ). But I will add that if you look at the large filming model as it was repainted for the feature film "Star Trek - Generations", with a darker overall color scheme and more weathering, then this model's paint job becomes just a BIT more acceptable.

Tis a shame, however that only a few parts on this are actually metal. I understand the weight issue ( particularly with the flimsy stands provided, although that could be remedied with a different stand design ), but the Corgi original series NCC-1701 companion piece was made nearly entirely out of metal and feels far more sturdy.

I remember the days when a toy adverstised as die cast metal really WAS die cast metal, but for what it is, it's okay. I just wouldn't pay more than $20.- $30. for it.

As a Trekie I wanted this as a desk toy. Sadly it is not quite what is claimed. The saucer section is plastic, not die cast, and the whole thing is a dark gray color with little white squares all over it. Maybe my TV doesn't work right, but the Enterprise-D always looked to be white to me
