Soulful Corinne Bailey Rae is a breath of fresh air..,

Soulful Corinne Bailey Rae is a breath of fresh air. When you listen to her songs, you can feel that she is connected (shows emotion) with the songs (and the lyrics). It's quite amazing to see a singer her age able to express music at this level.
Her voice is not the best I have heard but she's definitely unique. Her voice is comforting and down to earth. If you like Jazz, Blues or Soul, you should definitely try to listen to the jazzy, bluesy and soulful Corinne Bailey Rae. And I highly recommend you to listen to "Put Your Records On" at least several times and I'm sure most of you will love it... -------------------------------------------------- Three little birds, sat on my window. And they told me I don't need to worry. Summer came like cinnamon So sweet, Little girls double-dutch on the concrete. Maybe sometimes, we've got it wrong, but it's alright The more things seem to change, the more they stay the same Oh, don't you hesitate. Girl, put your records on, tell me your favourite song You go ahead, let your hair down Sapphire and faded jeans, I hope you get your dreams, Just go ahead, let your hair down. You're gonna find yourself somewhere, somehow. Blue as the sky, sunburnt and lonely, Sipping tea in the bar by the roadside, (just relax, just relax) Don't you let those other boys fool you, Got to love that afro hair do. Maybe sometimes, we feel afraid, but it's alright The more you stay the same, the more they seem to change. Don't you think it's strange? Girl, put your records on, tell me your favourite song You go ahead, let your hair down Sapphire and faded jeans, I hope you get your dreams, Just go ahead, let your hair down. You're gonna find yourself somewhere, somehow. 'Twas more than I could take, pity for pity's sake Some nights kept me awake, I thought that I was stronger When you gonna realise, that you don't even have to try any longer? Do what you want to. Girl, put your records on, tell me your favourite song You go ahead, let your hair down Sapphire and faded jeans, I hope you get your dreams, Just go ahead, let your hair down. Girl, put your records on, tell me your favourite song You go ahead, let your hair down Sapphire and faded jeans, I hope you get your dreams, Just go ahead, let your hair down. Oh, you're gonna find yourself somewhere, somehow

the best love album i have heard in ages,

like other reviewers have said, it's easy to listen from front to back. and I do so several times a day, like everyday since I got it. I first learned of corinne on BETj late spring. "Put your records on" is what they played most and now more so "Like a star". Both songs are great and great for an introduction of her to mainstream.
I love all of her lyrics, her voice, and just her. Her SNL performance had a sister in tears. I think many more people picked up on her with this performance and I'm glad she did it. First listens of course should be the aforementioned cuts but also check out "enchantment" "butterfly" and "seasons change" This is something you can listen to in the car with your kids or even grandma. NO raunchy and crappy lyrics here.

English Singer and Songwriter Corinne Bailey Rae's self titled debut album "Corinne Bailey Rae" (2006) is a memorable twelve track release full of feel good music. Corrine Bailey Rae is a gifted singer who's soulful singing, and beautiful personality shine through on this release. In addition to singing Bailey Rae plays the acoustic, electric and spanish guitar, percussion, bass, piano and keyboards. Not to be forgotten is group of background personnel who provide some exceptional and outstanding instrumentals and production. My personal favourites on this release are: "Call Me When You Get This", "Like A Star", "Enchantment" and "Butterfly". Bailey Rae takes her audience through an enjoyable journey on this album, covering many different aspects of life and love. "Corrine Bailey Rae" is an international release I recommend to anyone who enjoy's quality music.

Powerful and Vulnerable,

"I can understand that you don't want to cross the line,
and you know I can't promise you things, will turn out fine, But I have to be honest, I want you to be mine" ~Breathless A smooth jazzy start sets the pace for a romantic and emotionally fulfilling listen. Corinne Bailey has a sweet breathy schoolgirl voice in places (Like a Star) and her range goes from vulnerable to powerfully sexy (Breathless). You will be in love from the first note and lilt in her voice. Sweetly sexy and dreamy with a sigh of comfort and unique poetic lyrics, every track is stunning and leaves you a little high. Get out the expensive headphones for this sensual neo-soul dream! I love the way she sings "Choux Pastry Heart." "I get so breathless, when you call my name, I've often wondered, do you feel the same? There's a chemistry, energy, a synchronicity When we're all alone," ~Breathless ~The Rebecca Review

Put This Record On,
By
This review is from: Corinne Bailey Rae (Audio CD)
A very talented soul singer from Great Britain, Corinne Bailey Rae has created one of the finest debut cds since, dare we say, those juggernauts of a few years back by Norah Jones and Alicia Keys. A dazzling array of songs, all original, all self- or co-penned, this album may do just what those of Misses Jones and Keys did--appeal to a broad spectrum of listeners and, in the process, win a bundle of Grammys. Ms. Rae exhibits an `old school' sensibility with more than a hint of `new school' rhythms and styles. Rae's delivery is natural and seductive--no need for Aguileral (for those of you who approved our words "Esquivelish" & "Orbisonic") acrobatics or histrionics. Like a modern day Billie Holiday, Rae slurs and garbles her straight-forward, matter-of-fact lyrics, making them ever more evocative and gripping. And Rae possesses a feel for making pop music. There are enough hooks on this record to catch a school of guppies (or, perhaps, yuppies). Her song, "Put Your Records On", would seem the kind of sure-fire hit that assertively trumpets a star in the making.

Put this record on!!,

UK singer/songwriter Corinne Bailey Rae's eponymous CD is a throwback to 70s lush sunny soul music a-la Deniece Williams' hit 'Free'; lush strings, fleeting horns, organs, piano, and soothing harmonies, providing a beautiful background for her clear, feather-light vocals.
The slightly upbeat, sunny breezy 'Put your records on' (with video to match, looking like a scene out of 'The sound of music') was denied the UK #1 spot by Madonna. My favourite is the opening track, the acoustic filled tender ballad 'Like a star' with ethereal backing vocals. 'Enchantment' is just that, enchanting! Featuring a very relaxed delivery from Corinne, against a wall of lush strings and soothing harmonies. Fantastic bridge, by the way. Other stunning tracks are 'Trouble sleeping', 'Till it happens to you' (with angelic backing vocals), and the tender piano driven 'Choux pastry heart'. Raising the tempo a bit are 'Call me when you get this', and the horn sprinkled Macy Gray channelling retro funk sound of 'I'd like to' with lyrics looking back to the past, and great percussion. I really don't get these comparisons to Dido. The only thing I find in common with both is the fact that they are both from the UK. Their styles are miles apart. The CD hit #1 in the UK. Here's hoping the rest of the world discover this gem too.

Wonderful,

I first heard of Corinne Bailey Rae on SNL last week, I just happened to change the channel just as she was beginning her song. I immediatley fell in love with her style of music. The very next day I ran out to buy the CD. She will for sure be collecting Grammy's.

One of THE new voices of 2006!,

It was love at first listen. When I heard Corrine Bailey Rae on The Stix' single "Young & Foolish", I knew I'd be seeing and hearing her again.
Her debut album doesn't disappoint and is full of light, breezy & summery tunes enhanced by her pure, easy going vocals and sparse, careful production. If you've heard her lead single "Put Your Records On" I can tell you it only hints at the magic on the album. I love all the songs but tunes to really watch out for apart from the aforementioned might include: "Till It Happens to You", "Call Me When You Get This", Choux Pastry Heart", "I'd Like To", "Butterfly" and my definite favourite; "Breathless". Note also, the gospel-influenced lament "Seasons Change" that brings the album to an achingly beautiful close. Great for barbecues, intimate summer evenings or even just chilling with a cold drink on a warm summer's night. Definitely one of the better singers to emerge this year - and she's from my hometown!

I don't know how anyone could compare her to Nelly Furtado. I don't see it. Bailey, combines folk, jazz, and r&b and comes up with a wonderful CD. If you like good music you'll enjoy her work. This is music that dosen't need a elaborate music video, pirotecnique's at a concert, or undo hype in order for you to enjoy.
