Damn good fun, but not perfect,
When this thing works, it can open a bottle in a flash - under three seconds easily. The foil cutters are a real boon too, giving a tidy finish.Unfortunately it will not always work. Very tight-fitting corks, especially synthetics, will sometimes fail to be shifted by the pressure, and a regular corkscrew is needed. More irritating is a problem with long corks, where it is hard to get the nozzle right through the cork. If they had added 2-3mm length to the needle, this problem would not exist, which is very frustrating. In summary, worth the money, but make sure you have a backup just in case.

cool gadget, but doesn't always work.,

this wine opener is definitely a very cool little gadget to ooh and aah guests, but it does not always work on every bottle. some corks are too long for the needle to puncture the entire length, so you are left to resort back to a screw opener. also the foil cutter works well but makes the gadget a bit large and bulky to work with. perhaps using a traditional foil cutter and the corkpops model without built-in cutter would be more convenient. otherwise, a great little tool, and surprising how fast the cork just pops right out when it does. :) nice little gift for wine lovers.

A good upgrade,

I bought the less expensive corkpops (the one that looks like an ice-pick with a CO2 on top) and I was happy with it. I bought this upgraded one when the cannister on the first one got empty. The blades to cut the foil don't work as well as you would hope, but with REALLY good pressure they get the job done. HOWEVER, the really kewl thing about this is cork removal. As you might imagine after stabbing the cork there may be some resistance pulling it off of the needle. With the upgraded version you just twist the device and down it slides to the edge. That makes it work it for me. If that's not important to you or your don't want to spend the cash for the fancier cork pops spend the money on the simple one. It works, has WOW factor and makes you want to open bottles of wine. Just don't put it in carryon luggage!!!!!

Best I have ever owned!,
I have had many different kinds of wine openers...Screwpull, rabbits etc...and nothing compares to the ease of this Cork Pop! I have the "Legacy" version. Nice looking and takes less than 10 seconds to remove the foil and open the bottle...no kidding (okay...I haven't really timed it...). This would be great for someone with arthritic hands as there is no pulling or tugging involved...not even to remove the cork from the opener...just twist and the cork is removed. It is really the most amazing opener ever! The only downside I can think of is you will have to have cartridge refills eventually...I received mine about a month ago and have opened about 15 bottles of wine and still have plenty of "juice" left in the cartridge. AWESOME!

Built in foil cutter works every time. Don't try to force it down far, just let the point of the unit touch the foil, squeeze and turn, and off comes the foil. After foil is removed, push the point into the cork until the unit stops on top of the bottle, push the cannister while lightly lifting up the unit and the cork pops right off! It takes two or three practice tries to achieve perfection, but it's so much fun using it that you don't care.

I've owned one fo these for years and I'm still on the first cartridge. I've yet to insert the refill cartridge even though I have opened countless bottles of wine. The package says that each cartridge opens 50 bottles. I think I'm beyond that. This is better than a rabbit opener (I have one of those as well). My suggestion is to ease the cork out AS SOON as you depress the cartrdige. When done in one swift motion the cork comes out super fast and without effort. These make fabulous gifts. The refills are avaiable at wine shops also.

Takes the hassle out of opening a wine bottle,
This review is from: Cork Pops Legacy Wine Bottle Opener, Black (Kitchen)
The Cork Pops Legacy Wine Opener is terrific. It's the easiest device to open a wine bottle that I've used. No more twisting the corkscrew in and pushing and pulling to extract the cork. Just a slight push down on the carbon dioxide container and the cork pops out. It even has a foil cutter built in.

This is a great product. I use it all the time. Occasionally I have to fall back to a manual opener, but that's maybe one bottle out of twenty, if that.
Some here complain about the cartridges not lasting. Simply push the button for only a quarter-second, and let the pressure do the work. I suspect some may be holding the button down until the cork comes free, which is far more than you need. Also, if you turn the bottle upside down for a couple seconds before inserting the needle, you'll leave some wine between the base of the cork and the bottle. This will seal the pressure better, and it will get forced up between cork and bottle by the pressure, acting as a lubricant. (More needed on white wine, which you might have set upright in the fridge to chill, for example.) Once I discovered this trick, almost every bottle opened easily. Once armed with these tricks, you'll get a lot of good use out of this tool. |
