All the older reviews you see on this device probably were before so many wine makers stated using synthetic corks. So far I have opened 2 bottles of wine with synthetic corks. First problem was just getting the needle through the cork. Took a lot of effort and the needle got bent slightly from the effort. It did open the wine, however I had to put the cork in a vise so I could remove it from the needle. Second bottle I lubricated the needle. Took 2 application of gas to get the cork to come out. It did and flew from my hand and opener and all hit the ceiling. Quite exciting! I was however able to remove the cork from the needle without resorting to the vise, but with some effort.
So I guess my search for the perfect opener will continue. Have used the original rabbit opener and clones And I like them. However the failure of these openers is not so much the corkscrew as it is the insert that causes the corkscrew to spiral into the bottle. If one of these companies would make that a replaceable part as well as the screw it would lengthen the life of these openers to an acceptable level. Perhaps that is not the aim as replacement of the whole unit ads to the bottom line. The claims from Metrokane and others to open hundreds of bottles is not supported by my experience and other wine drinkers I know. It kills me to throw out a piece of equipment like this caused by the failure of a 25 cent part.

This is the only wine opener we use now. It is fun and easy. However, if you don't store the wine correctly and the cork is dry, you might get a little bit of cork in the bottle.

I added this opener to my wish list and received it for Christmas. I've always struggled with corkscrews, but I was nervous that using the needle type would take too much strength for my weak little hands. But on the first use, it could not have been easier. It was simple to slide the needle into the cork, and the only surprise was how quickly it popped out. It was actually a little startling, like popping a champagne cork. The instructions note the opener cannot be used on 1.5 liter bottles or carbonated wines, but neither of those is an issue. I was always so disappointed and embarrassed that I couldn't enjoy wine at home, because I always needed help with a corkscrew- but those days are over as I sit here enjoying my first glass of Shiraz. I highly recommend this opener to anyone who is tired of tearing up corks or hurting their wrists with a conventional corkscrew!

I didnt really think this would work, I mean, I have spent a long time struggling with corkscrews of all price ranges and types. This inexpensive peice of gas & plastic? ITS GREAT!!! absoloutely perfect. Its small, decent to look at, functions exceptionally and makes everyone want to open more wine!!!

Highly recommend it, i bought 2 extra gas cartridges too, so i am always prepared to open wine :)

This is hands down the best way to get a bottle of wine open short of a screwcap. I will never use a corkscrew again as long as I have this item. I even take it to restaurants with me. Not only is it simple and easy and instant, it's also a neat effect that always gets attention from spectators (not quite as spectacular as the saber method but a lot safer and cleaner). The only time it's ever failed me was on German corks that are not tight enough and slide into the bottle but obviously that would be the case with any opener and those will always be tricky to get open. Bravo and thank you to the designer of this item. This is true innovation.

I admit the first time I tried this I couldn't figure out how to work it, you'd think it would be pretty simple. The trick to it is getting the needle all the way through the cork and then pushing the button(the top of the propellant cannister) and pulling upwards at the same time. If you do it right, the cork pops out with no trouble. Also the packaging says that its not for use with 1.5 liter bottles of wine, but I tried it and it worked fine.

I bought this wine bottle opener for my 91 yr old mother who likes to have lady friends over for wine. Because of arthritic hands it's difficult for her to open bottles. This device with its CO2 cartridge does the work for her. I also bought one for myself and love it. Plastic corks are harder to get the needle thru than cork but it works great on both. You can't go wrong with such a reasonable price.

This is a fantastic, effortless cork popper. However, make sure you have a traditional corkscrew for a backup. It does not work on all corks. At first I thought that it just didn't work on synthetic corks but have since found that not to be true so I'm not sure why. But when it does work, it is great.
