Who else was born in a tiny midwestern farm town and at seven years of age had her first job playing piano with the Horace Heidt band? Is there any other musician who has played harp with Liberace; piano with Billie Holiday and Mel Torme; sang with the bands of Harry James, Ray Anthony, Freddie Martin; owned the most successful clothing store in Hollywood for 17 years; ran a highly successful ... Editorial Reviews

Review

In addition to her fascinating harp and piano work, the session highlight stems from Hale's bright refreshing vocal talent. -- L.A. Jazz Scene, October, 1998

Want to relax with some stunning soft jazz interpretation of the standards? Check out Corky Hale's CD titled "Corky". -- Cabaret Magazine, October, 1998

Product Description

Several noted jazz artists such as drummer Frank Capp, bassist John Leitham, guitarist John Pisano, and bassist Brian Bromberg join the string sections from the Orchestras of Don Bagley (ex-Stan Kenton bassist) and Jimmy Haskell. Corky splits her time on the session equally between piano and harp with five tracks each; other pieces employ her on the vibes and synthesizer. Songs are taken from various songwriters that she has worked with including Bacharach & David, Leiber & Stoller, Marilyn & Alan Bergman and Livingston & Evans.

5.0 out of 5 stars one of the great jazz artists of our time shows it December 15, 1998

Format:Audio CD
Corky Hale is the greatest jazz harpist to ever live, and considered by many jazz greats (Frank Sinantra, Barbra Streisand, Tony Bennett, Billy Holiday and many others) to be one of the finest musicians in Hollywood. This album demonstrates many of her skills on the harp.

Corky Hale's renditions on both harp and piano are incredible. This is an easy listening album with a nice variety of old time jazz like I enjoy.

5.0 out of 5 stars CORKY IS FABULOUS March 28, 2008
Format:Audio CD
The album is sheer delight and style. I wanted another album from the 80's Corky did called Harp Beat and managed to find her management company email address. I emailed them and received a phone call from Corky herself who made sure I had the album I was looking for.

Corky is a great talent who had worked with Billy Holiday, Barbara Streisand and so many other great names. From pianist to harpist to vocalist every note she touches is magic.

Corkys music is so refreshing and real.

Thank you Corky for being so caring about your fans and for giving us such beautiful music to enjoy!

Corky Hale is one of the most talented artists I know. I saw her in concert several years ago in La Mirada as an accompanist to several cabaret artists, including Melissa Manchester.
Her piano playing stood out for me...and then when I bought her cd, I discovered her outstanding harpist ability. I bought this cd that I already had for a friend who mentioned she liked harpists.
