5.0 out of 5 stars Good film about the importance of friendship and manhood
Aw later for you, Leonard Maltin! This movie is GREAT! This is an important story about friendship and manhood. Young Larry Fishburne's admiration of "Cornbread" rings true with any child who had an older friend to admire as a role model. Aw later for you, Leonard Maltin! This movie is GREAT! This is an important story about friendship and manhood. Young Larry Fishburne's admiration of "Cornbread" rings true with any child who had an older friend to admire as a role model. But the outstanding part is where Fish's mother (Rosalind Cash) tells Fishburne to go to the courtroom stand and BE A MAN and not to be intimidated into giving false testimony of Cornbread's death at the hands of the police as the other witnesses were! This scene borught tears to my eyes and a "standing-o" from the audience I saw it with. This scene alone, with the message it gives to young people about integrity, is worth the price of admission alone!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great movie!!!, March 20, 2002

This movie stands the test of time. I remember seeing this movie on the big screen when I was little.I was so moved by young Larry Fishburn performance that I found myself crying right along with him during the big tearjerking scene. So much talent even at that young age of 12. It's hard to believe that the sweet kid in "Cornbread Earl and Me" grew up to be the mean Ike Turner in "What's Love Got To Do With It"! One of my favorite movies as a child, "Cornbread Earl and Me" is now one of my children's favorite. The teenagers love it for the violence( angry mob attacks cops,woman gets 'pimp slap' in the face by crooked cop, ... etc.) but I like it because of the beautiful touching story. Buy it, you wont be disappointed.

4.0 out of 5 stars An outstanding movie!, July 21, 2000

This movie is great! I wholeheartedly recommend this movie to anyone. It features outstanding acting, excellent cinematography, and incredible musical scores! My favorite part in the whole movie is the song that introduces the main character "Cornbread." I hope that you enjoy this movie as much as I have and do. In fact this movie has inspired a small Cornbread groupie movement amongst the counselors and lifeguards at a certain up-scale mountain resort. If it has the power to do that, think what it could do for you. Like the song says.... "It's Cornbread!" So just buy it.

5.0 out of 5 stars "One of the Best movies out there, May 15, 2005
This review is from: Cornbread Earl & Me [VHS] (VHS Tape)
One of the most shining examples out there of the blackploitation era is this film; You have a dilemma, and you have a solution. A young brother just about to go to college on a basketball scholarship was killed by the cops thinking that he was a suspect; All the witnesses of the crime get intimidated with the exception of one young brother played courageously by Laurence Fishburne, who tells the story just like it is even after he and his mother were intimidated by the prosecution. Most of the witnesses were intimidated and denied what actually happened. But Fishburne's character unbought and unbossed told Cornbread's story simply and saved the day;If you ever want to see a film and come across a situation that needs clarifying, THIS is the film to see;

I show this movie when I was about 13 years of age, I'm now 34. This movie has touch my life beyond words, it has shown me that no matter what we do in life, to live each day as if it is your last.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cornbread Earl and Me, June 9, 2005
This review is from: Cornbread, Earl & Me (DVD)
Way back then, when I was a child growing up in Guyana, South America, I saw this movie on big screen. It touched an entire audience that night and I am happy to have seen it on Amazon.com. I am now lucky to be able to buy it because I have often thought about this movie, about the nice kid whom everyone called Cornbread. I remember both him and his basketball which was replaced that fatal day with a bottle of soda pop when he was shot. I can never forget this story, because it is indelibly encraved into my mind and I turned out pretty good, now living here in America. These movies are the real classics of all times, only...no one every says so! I rate this movie a classic and I am sorry Amazon.com. I love you but you don't have a buttom to rate a true classic of our time!

Great movie for the entire family. Lots of good moral and character lessons on this flick. It's not about race. It's about doing the right thing and standing up for the truth.

the dvd was delivered as promised and in excellent condition. And the dvd itself is just one of my favorites I wanted for my collection. A very young Lawrence Fisbourne flexing his acting chops even back then.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Cornbread, Earl & Me (DVD)
The movie was excellent. The best thing I liked about my purchase was that I got it in less than a week. I was able to give it to my mother who has found Amazon to be a great place to buy all the old movies she use to watch as a child.
