Editorial Reviews

Lior is a musician whose music gives more than it takes, offering a spiritually enriching experience for all involved and a reminder of a time when the music came first, and everything else was secondary. Autumn Flow became one of the most successful independent debuts in Australian history, garnering Lior three ARIA nominations (including Best Male Artist) and a swag of other awards, including a prestigious Triple J 'J Award' nomination for Album Of The Year. Autumn Flow has now sold well beyond 50,000 copies. The songs on Lior's second album 'Corner Of An Endless Road' are intensely personal and candid. They represent landmarks in the emotional journey throughout the last two years of Lior's career and life. Lior worked closely with producer Francois Tetaz at matching the emotional range of the songs with musical choices that intimately represent who he is, as a musician and a person. The album has collaborations with artists such as internationally renowned Sia and oud player Joseph Tawadros, and includes string orchestras and brass ensembles. 'Corner of an Endless Road' is a true representation of Lior's musical landscape; think Led Zeppelin jamming with Nick Drake at a teahouse somewhere in the Middle East.

It's difficult to listen to LIOR and not envoke artists of the past but that would be to detract from the obvious talent this man possesses. He is basically of the singer/songwriter school playing guitars but does pick up a tuba, of all things, on one track.

The opening track 'April Bloom' was an excellent choice and possibly just scrapes in as best on a very even and free flowing album. LIOR never gets preachy but is a keen observer in the way that all good singer/songwriters appear to be, his lyrics thought provoking. On 'Heal Me' he enquires, "How many times have we broken down on this tired and fimiliar road" a striking remark which is easy to relate to when one has been round in circles with a problematic relationship.

The music has middle eastern elements which, considering his family background, is not very surprising and this makes for an album which requires a few listens before being fully appreciated.

All-in-all LIOR has delivered a collection of songs to mull over in a style not far removed from sixties folk/rock but not retro sounding. Pick it up and give yourself time. It'll grow on you.

There isn't one particular stand out song on this album ..... they're all fantastic .... one of those rare albums where it's hard to choose a favourite. An album with very much a "Beatles" crossed with Art Garfunkel feel to it, "April Bloom" reminds me of something George Harrison would have done, likewise "Sleeping in the Rain" has a Paul McCartney feel about it.
"Heal Me" has sweeping anthemic themes running through it, classic rock meets the Sahara Desert musically. "Sonja" could be something sung by Art Garfunkel .... whereas "Jerusalem" has some lovely Beach Boy type harmonies.

I highly reccommend Lior and his Corner Of An Endless Road to anyone who enjoys great classic rock infused with some wonderful sounds evoking music from the East.
