5.0 out of 5 stars Five year old's favorite. Great for adults, too.
We just bought this CD for our five year old, and it's now her favorite Raffi CD. This CD is a little more up-tempo than the first two. This is great music for kids and adults. It never gets old, and I find myself singing along, too. Ha ha!

We love all our Raffi CD's, and Raffi's stuff is far superior than the other commecial stuff, like Barney and Disney.

2.0 out of 5 stars I dont get what the big deal is...
This sounds like something youd hear out of a nursery! This music has no redeeming values at all. Even if it was, it would be innapropreate for the children. If im right, fraire a' jaques means "come and sleep with me". That might be moulin rouge though. Honestly (COMMMENSE AND WE WILL DEFEAT THE QUINTON-TOES EMPIRE!) honk honk bussy be have your hunny swee, this song is...

If you have a chance to see him in concert, do it. We did a few years ago, and it was really great. Check out the Raffi in Concert CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars Oh Please, November 2, 2005

To the previous reviewer: This IS music for a nursery! And Frere Jacques, very loosely translated is: "Brother Jack, are you sleeping? Come on it is morning."

I love Raffi and I don't even HAVE a nursery. I buy them for every little kid I know so when I go to their house I can listen, too! This is a particularly good Raffi CD and contains one of my favourites, "My Way Home". Only the Baby Beluga album is better than this one, although "Bananaphone" is worth the purchase simply for the song "Bananaphone".

5.0 out of 5 stars Silly, Happy Classics!, January 8, 2004

My children have listened to this CD for years and still play it. It's great for toddlers to second grade kids and adults. You will get your money's worth. Many of the songs are very funny. Some are just happy tunes that remind me of the better days of being a child. I like this CD. My children love it. All of the songs are great. I would call it a carefully made collection of likeable classics. Thank you Raffi!

This is a classic!

This is an AWESOME CD! Corner Grocery Store has funny songs. It has some songs for older kids like me and some songs for younger kids. We still listen to this in the car. I used to listen to it alot. It has some songs for everyone. My mom and dad like it. This was my favorite CD. I recommend it for any kid from toddler to maybe first grade.

Raffi is still as appealing to young children today as he was in the late 80's when my son was small. His delightful approach to singing to children is still fresh. Bravo, Raffi.

I would just like to say that my 11 year old son loved Raffi growing up, and now I am getting some for my 6 month old daughter. I keep singing "Shake the sillies out" and she loves it. It is also fun for the parents as well, there also great learning techniques. Thank you..

5.0 out of 5 stars Special Music to Share with a Child., October 7, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Corner Grocery Store & Other Songs (Audio CD)
This is special music to share with a child. I remember my children laughing and singing to silly songs like "Boom Boom (Aint it Great to be Crazy)," "Grocery Store," and "Here Sits a Monkey." Children really respond to this music. It's so full of life and energy.

Some of the songs really understand children: what they are like and what they like. This is great music to share with a child. It gets better and better the more we listen to it.

5.0 out of 5 stars An old favorite of ours from way back in the day, March 1, 2009

Long before CD's were even invented, my parents and I were on vacation shopping at a record store in Washington DC, during our adoption trip for my sister. We were looking for some new music for us to add to our home library. We had all the other Raffi records they had in stock, but it just so happened that "The Corner Grocery Store," was one that we did NOT have at the time, so we bought it. I used to tape it onto a cassette so that we could have it as a car tape, and also to give as gifts to people who were having children. It has some great hits, beginning with the Ella Jenkins classic "You Sing a Song and I'll Sing a Song," and ending with an adaptation of the Weavers Classic "Goodnight Irene." I'd have to say, that our family's favorite track on the whole album is "Knees Up Mother Brown." My sister used to love to dance to that song, and we have video tape of her dancing to that song while my Dad sang it. Contrary to popular belief, Raffi did not write that song. It's a very old tune. By the way, did you know that when they made the Disney movie "Mary Poppins," the choreographer used that tune to teach Dick Van Dyke and the chimney sweeps the choreography to Step in Time?

All in all, this is a first rate recording and one that every child should have. I still listen to our VERY OLD cassette now and then. FOR GOODNESS SAKE STOP READING THIS REVIEW AND BUY THE CD!
