Massey (Don't Ever Tell) starts this thriller with a bang, but it quickly trails off into a whimper. Corey Webb, a successful Atlanta entrepreneur, seems to have a perfect life until Leon Sharpe, a childhood friend from Webb's days in Detroit, comes to town. Sharpe, now on the FBI's Ten Most Wanted List, wants a hefty sum from Webb to keep quiet about a dark secret from Webb's quite unsavory past. It's not long before Webb's gorgeous wife, Simone, and young daughter, Jada, get pulled into the tangle of lies and blackmail. At first, Webb's ordeal is compelling, but Massey keeps the reader waiting far too long for a disappointing revelation, and an implausible plot and stilted dialogue (You've forgotten your roots, kiddo, it's time to pay the devil his due) do little to make the slog worthwhile. More About the Author

I was born June 9, 1973, in Waukegan, Illinois. I grew up in Zion, a suburb north of Chicago.

I originally self-published THUNDERLAND, my first novel, in 1999. After managing to sell a few thousand copies on my own, Kensington Publishing Corp. in New York offered me a two-book contract. Kensington published a new, revised edition of THUNDERLAND in December 2002.

My second book, DARK CORNER, a vampire novel that takes place in rural Mississippi, hit stores nationwide in January 2004.

I've also served as an editor. My first anthology is entitled DARK DREAMS: A Collection of Horror and Suspense by Black Writers; it was published in August 2004. The collection features tales by popular writers such as Zane, Tananarive Due, and Steven Barnes, in addition to stories by rising stars and talented newcomers.

My new thriller, WITHIN THE SHADOWS, was published by Kensington in June 2005. My new anthology, VOICES FROM THE OTHER SIDE, will be published in April 2006.

Other forthcoming books include a collection of my short stories, entitled TWISTED TALES (June 2006), and my new thriller, THE OTHER BROTHER (July 2006).

I currently reside with my family near Atlanta, GA.

This story starts out on the edge and keeps you there! This story is about lies, honesty and friendship. It's about your past coming back to haunt you! It's fast paced, easy to read, and hard to put down because you want to know what's happening next! It also has an unexpected twist which catches you off guard! If you love Mr. Massey's other books...you will love this one also!

In Atlanta Corey Webb is the poster boy for living the American dream as he runs a successful business has a beautiful caring wife Simone and an adoring precocious nine years old daughter Jada. His perfect world collapses when he runs into his childhood friend from Detroit Leon Sharpe who is maliciously staring at Jada.

On the run from the FBI, Sharpe demands Webb pays for his silence or he will reveal their past associations in Motown. Already on the Ten Most Wanted List, he also threatens Webb's family. Willing to pay the blackmail fee, but not at the cost of his beloved wife and daughter, Webb knows he must find a way to extract his family from Sharpe's deadly entanglement.

That initial encounter on the Atlanta streets is a terrific opening to a fast-paced thriller as Webb's roots come back to entangle him in a deadly scenario. Character driven mostly by the lead pair but nicely supported by Webb's family and others, fans will be excited by the hero's compelling ordeal as the code of the street was DON'T EVER TELL. Exciting and fun in spite of the unlikely circumstances and happenstance making plausibility slight, fans will enjoy this fine family crime caper.

Cornered a story about the middle class, happy and successful Corey Webb and family. The story began with a blast from the past and was a page turner. About one half way the story began to drag until almost three quarers. I kept reading and enjoyed the ending with the unexpected twist. This was not my favorite by the author but I hope he will do another thriller.
