This CD, released in June, 2007 is an amazing example of exuberant, nuanced, and highly accomplished musicianship in the Traditional Celtic genre. Celtic Spring is a family of fiddlers and dancers, parents and six siblings. The children, born and raised in Ojai, CA, were immersed in this music and dance from a very young age, and being homeschooled, apparently were able to dance and play to their hearts' content. This combined with the fact that they sought out the best musicians in the field to teach them has enabled them to perform at a level that normally takes many more years to acquire. The pieces on this CD show a sophisticated understanding of the music, blending several tunes into one piece, as is common practice in the genre. There are original tunes here, Maria's Invitation being a standout, along with Reel for Regis (dedicated to one of the judges on "America's Got Talent"), as well as a host of traditional tunes.
Studio recording aside, this group truly excels in live performance. Their enthusiasm and joy for the music is powerfully projected, and they've won over literally hundreds of audiences who at first were not all that familiar this type of music. I recommend checking out some of their performances on YouTube.

This family of Celtic musicians and dancers is awesome - they should've won "America's Got Talent" a couple years ago!!!
