Hillsong LIVE is the expression of worship from the globally influential HillsongChurch. This year Hillsong LIVE returns with their latest church resource, Cornerstone, which will release on Sparrow Records July 03, 2012. This album will mark the 21st LIVE release from Hillsong. This local church creative team has a commitment to continually resource the Body of Christ with fresh songs of worship and a deep passion to see people connect with the Living God in a real and personal way. The album was recorded live along with thousands of worshippers gathered together in Sydney Australia and features new songs by worship leaders Reuben Morgan, Ben Fielding, Joel Houston, Darlene Zschech and others. Hillsong is known for such worldwide worship anthems as "Shout To The Lord," "Mighty To Save," "Hosanna," "Desert Song," and many more modern worship anthems sung by tens of millions every week in worship services around the world. I eagerly await each new Hillsong release and Cornerstone is truly stellar and is now my top overall album by Hillsong LIVE. In my opinion, Hillsong has managed to release their newest best album with each release since Mighty To Save.

Cornerstone opens with "Endless Light." Right from the opening drum beat and Coldplay-style guitar riffs, I was hooked immediately. If you are looking for new worship songs to sing with fellow believers, this album is chock-full of congregational songs, especially the female led worship songs, "Beneath The Waters (I Will Rise)" and "All My Hope" which features gorgeous female vocals that remind me of UNITED's "Like An Avalanche." "All My Hope" has an instantly sing-able chorus, "All my Hope is in You, All my strength is in You, with every breath, my soul will rest in You." Amen to that!

Prime Cuts: I Desire Jesus, Beneath the Waters (I Will Rise), Cornerstone

While many worship bands have come and gone, Hillsong Live's perennial releases have not only been top sellers but many of their songs have made their way into the song books of innumerable churches. Part of the reason of such a steely success is that Hillsong has never indulged in carnivalesquous accoutrements. Rather, their songs have always been God centred informed by the richness of Scripture. "Cornerstone," their 21st live recording, is no different. These 15 cuts (if you get the deluxe version) are just anthems of Scriptural truths made palatable in ways that the audience can sing along to in no time. However, there are a three of departures with "Cornerstone:" first, Hillsong's front lady for many years Darlene Zschech is further pushed to the background. Known for writing worship stables such as "Worthy is the Lamb" and "Shout to the Lord," Zschech did not contribute any song here. This is probably the first time since Hillsong Live's genesis that that has had happened. Second, while many Hillsong's music has been marked by Zschech's angelic signature vocals, here Zschech only sings lead on one track ("I Desire Jesus"). Other than these misgivings, the third departure is more welcomed: on this release, Hillsong have included a larger range of subjects in their songs. Topics such as baptism, the second coming, the global explosion of the Gospel are deftly dwelt.

If you are thinking of saving a couple of bucks and only get the standard version of this disc, think twice. The best track here is only found on the deluxe version. "I Desire Jesus," a track written by Brooke Fraser's husband Scott Ligertwood, is easily the cream of the crop.

Purchased this CD after seeing a youtube video of the live album. I've only recently discovered Hillsong, again thanks to youtube when I viewed a concert with Michael W. Smith and Darlene Zschech. Having been a fan of contemporary Christian music for a number of years, I researched some more and found Darlene's connection to Hillsong.

Rather than go through the CD track by track, I'll keep the review short and just say I enjoyed them all. Some tracks stand out, but lyrically and musically they are all top notch. I also have the Hillsong Miami concert CD, and I prefer this one a bit more--it has a somewhat slower tempo and is more relaxing to listen to. But both CD's are worth it if you enjoy contemporary Christian music. Hillsong is good at uptempo music and the slower songs.

Go out and get this CD and enjoy!

I almost didn't buy this due to some of the reviews that said some of the last songs weren't as good. This album is awesome! There are so many wonderful songs on it that really bring the presence of God! It's not so much the talent, although they are talented, but rather the worship that emanates from this album. Well worth buying. I love it! It is also great that they include a Dvd. We play that sometimes and home and just enjoy it.

I'm seventy-four years of age--if you like rock, back off on the bass, and the quality of this improves significantly--I have a sound-bar with separate wireless bass for my flat screen. Whether described as chemistry, passion, praise, worship or whatever, there was/is something present and emanating from the DVD. Playing the CD in my auto, I backed off on the bass-3 or-4, increased the mid+2, and the treble+1, cranked it up a little, and wow, what a difference! Yes, get the deluxe edition with the DVD.

Blessings
